  1. I have a sony D8 camcorder with ilink and usb output ports. On the other hand i have a laptop 2.4ghz P4, 40gb hd and 256RAM and a desktop pc 1ghz Athlon, 80&30GB hds, 512ram. I have firewire and usb2 ports on both systems. Which computer should be better to make the transfer (via firewire or usb2) with no dropped frames? Seems that 40gb on the laptop might not be enough huh?
What aplication is recommended to use during the tranfer?
What are my options my main goal is to make a dvd out of the input videos from the camera. Can someone experienced give me options on the optimal solution and why?
    Thanx in advance

  2. My expirience says both systems are fast and good enough for firewire transfer without frames dropping. 40 GB is definitly not enough for comfortable video editing (as you probably know 1 hour of dv takes 13 GB). You have to calculate with 13 GB (source file) + 13 GB (cutted, modified avi) + xx GB temporary files.

  3. For firewire transfer I used few applications and all of them worked without problems (MS MovieMaker, DVIO, Ulead Media Studio Pro, Scenalyzer, Pover VCR etc.).

Don't try capturing using USB. Most Sony camcorders have both ports but the USB is intended to transfer still images not video. Depending on the exact model, you may well find that USB is limited to webcam type resolution and frame rate. iLink is the Sony name for Firewire and that's what you should be using for video transfer where you will get full frame DV format captures (720 x 576, 25fps PAL or 720 x 480, 29.97fps NTSC).

  5. U have any good tutorials for those apps? Cause i know nothing concerning video editing. The format of the video that comes out from the firewire connection is it uncompressed? Whats best for my use if i want to edit it with titles n stuff?
