I finally installed my new Epson 960 tonight, but they gave me the wrong software disc. How hard can it be to tell the difference between 825 and 960???

Anyway, I'm left w/o any way to print on discs. Epson doesn't keep the software available on their site (I got the correct driver, but not the CD printing software). A Kazaa search came up empty.

    Any suggestions???

Do what Craig Tucker said or take it back to the store and have them get you the correct software.

I bought it directly from Epson, making the mistake all the more un-acceptable.

Funny note: There is an "update" to the software on the British Epson site, BUT NOT THE ACTUAL SOFTWARE!

    WTF???

Are you looking for "Epson PhotoQuicker 3.1"?

    if so try this:

    http://www.epson.com.au/misc/aug01_photo_quicker.asp

looks like there are two links at the bottom for the "STYLUS Photo 890" and " STYLUS Photo 1290". I think both have E.P.Q 3.1 plus an updated driver.....just load the software and skip the driver??????

Worth a try if you can wait for Epson.

if you feel like it, you can download a trial of sure thing (www.surething.com)...under the CD printer templates is a template for the 960 - skip the wizard that comes up by default as all templates don't seem to be in there, but then create one from scratch and pick the CD template category (surething is what I have tried to start using instead of the s/w that comes w/ the 960). I think the trial is 30 days which should hold you until epson can ship you the real s/w.

don't wear yourself out on the calibration b/c it can be tedious. also, I suggest trying your first print or two on the cardboard cutout that ships in the CD/DVD printer tray ( you can actually buy these but they are more $ than they seem worth, even if cheaper than a real disc).

the epson s/w is limited but works pretty easily. surething is much more powerful takes a little longer to learn, and the calibration is more difficult since it isn't made just for the 960.

enjoy the printer when you get it running -- it rocks. I'm in Jersey and haven't found anyplace to buy the carts. except for epson.com .. for jersey, there's no tax and the shipping's heavily discounted, so maybe that's ok..good luck w/ your printer

  7. The program I have for my Epson 900 is called "Epson Print CD" version 1.10A. If you can't find it online and the file size is not too large I could email you the file.

You guys rock! Thanks everyone for the replies.

Sorry JSB, that doesn't sound like the software for printing directly to DC/DVD using the Epson printers capable of that.

DaveS, I'm going to check that out. Might even be worth buying it if it's got advantages over the Epson software.

bob W, I'm away from my home computer for a few days, but if it's not too much trouble I may take you up on the offer. Let me know how big the file is OK?

And idiot, what the hecks a cart???

  10. Leebo - if you can get the epson s/w, I would suggest to start there...I personally like the ST s/w but the calibration was a bear - the epson is a good starting point for some prints b/c it knows where to print the template on the page...I tried to put paper over my tray so I could experiment w/ the calibration settings, but it kept shifting the printout location on me...very strange; I thought maybe there was some optical kind of process the printer was using to position the tray prior to printing and perhaps I was interfering w/ it(??)...I think I got it but haven't tried another since then - maybe next print I will re-try that...I do like the ST s/w though...if I can get it down, I'll post something w/ the settings & see if anyone else had similar results...

Ya think I can use those clear plastic discs they put on top of the stack when you buy DVD's in cakeboxes? They're the same size as the discs and they're hard plastic. I realize the ink won't dry, but maybe using draft mode I can at least see where I am.
As long as the ink doesn't smear b4 it leaves the printer I don't think it will muck anything up.

I must have 6 or 8 of those things lying around.

cart - lazy for ink cartidge. Those wickedly expensive things that Epsons munch down quicker than you like. The new ones have a chip on them that keeps track of the amount of ink used. When it says they are empty, then the cart is no longer useable. Even if you refill it, the counter still says empty. You can get a chip reset device, but you still have to remove the cart to reset it. This can let air into your printhead which leads to clogs and other print problems. So finding a cartridge that has a modified chip that always reads full is something you want to look for. If you only print CD's, the ink should last a long time and buy new Epson carts won't be too bad. If you start using it to print photos, then it will get used very quickly.

The other advantage to aftermarket carts is aftermarket ink. There are some new inks that should allow printing onto uncoated CD's. Yes those silver topped cheapo's. I haven't tried it yet, but when I get a caddy made, I will. These inks were made to work with RC paper (resin coated), in otherwords PLASTIC coated papers. Glossy is the most common of the RC papers. The ink does not absorb into the paper, but still dries and does not rub off. These inks work well on the paper that I have tried, so CD's should work well too.
