of course, mtv will repeat the vma's at nausea (sp?). i can't believe people still watch mtv. i'm with tgpo. its supposed to stand for Music Television. didn't it start out as a way for lesser known artists to get their music out? now its gotten so pop that its just sickening. they got shows like the osbornes, making the band with "p. diddy", and that one with jessica simpson. people actually call that entertainment?

well, it was more like when it started out, few major artists were bothering to make videos at all, so they had to fill the airwaves with whatever they could get. There were more minor artists making them than majors.

Rod Stewart was one of the few, that's why so many of his videos were in such high rotation... they had to fill hours! It was only after MTV showed you could make stars out of unknowns by airing the videos that major labels and major artists jumped on en masse.

but I'm with you guys - the last thing i watched (other than the first 20 mintues of the vma's) on MTV was the Old Dirty Bastard special a few weeks ago. Otherwise, it's VH1, but increasingly it's Fuse TV (a MuchMusic spin off channel).

I wish I could ditch MTV and get MuchMusic instead...

What kills me about MTV is pretty much what has already been said. THat they dont play videos. Even on TRL where they are sposed to show the top 10 requested video's of the day. They show like 15 - 20 sec clips of the videos. Who the hell calls up and says " Yes i would like to put my vote in for ( such and such video ), but i would only like the vote for that one 10 second part. If you could just show that it would be great." Then to top it off, when are showing that 20 sec clip the have some stupid teenie bopper kid in the lower conner of the screen saying some stupid shit about why she likes the viedo and screaming. That channel is shuck a joke.

MTV is a bit of a joke these days. I still watch a bit of it (Headbangers Hall, Punk'd, Jackass etc). Had to hand it to Chris Rock though, he had some funny material for the show (like the Olsen twin/R. Kelly quip).

I think the problem is (well apart from too much pop/r'n'b) that they try and be cool but end up just trying too hard.
