  1. Hi all,

    I'm having this playback problem.
There's a few DVDs that can be played on my DVD player in my living room but can't be played in my computer.

I'm tried PowerDVD, WinDVD and WMP9 but to no avail. This problem only apply to certain DVDs, not all. Some of my friends are also facing the same problem.

When those "infected" DVDs are played in my computer, error message returned was "Unknown File Format".

Can anyone help me to get all my DVDs play in my computer?

    Thanks!

    Odd.
I only get those error messages when I try play a dvd that didn't burn correctly, but then it doesn't play in my standalone either.
Have you the chance to try the disks in a friends computer dvd-rom drive?
It might just be a case of your dvd-rom laser wearing.

i have this problem with some of my dvds and i find that when i put the dvd into the computers drive it sometimes doesnt recognise them as a dvd (although it does show the correct dvd label), however the solution for me is simple, just open my computer, right click on a blank area and select refresh (sometimes takes several tries), i am using power dvd and i know when it will work because the icon for my dvd-rom drive will change from the normal icon to the power dvd icon, i just keep refreshing until the icon changes then double click it and the disk plays fine
