you could use a compressor like WinRAR or WinACE, in which you can set the compressed file to have a password.

With WinRAR, you can create also an uncompressed archive that will be password protected.

  4. Well, I have to get at some of this data quite frequently (it's being removed for security reasons) and I don't want to go through unpacking it whenever I need to get at it...I was hoping I could just set up a disc so that when I go to open it a password would be required to into it...nothing spectacular needed.

I may rar it up or something if thats the only way, but if someone has a better suggestion please respond.

We responded at nearly the same time!

Uncompressed? That would mean that it would act as a folder and not have to go through the whole decompressing process? How would I do this?

  6. There are all kinds of security programs out their designed to "lock" a specific folder or specific .exe. It simply puts a password on the folder and if you want to access it then you have to type a password. No compression needed.

You might want to use PGP. I'm told there are ways to encrypt a disk or files. To decrypt those files you can make a key that is located on a floppy, or CD or USB flash drive, etc. Decryption is automatic, as long as the key is available. I'm not really sure how to do this, but this is the type of thing you are looking for. There is a link to PGP in the computer forum, or use a search engine. PGP is also free for personal use. If for business, then they have even better tools available from the same place. You could also try BestCrypt.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
