Gulp down a four pack of them and you have no problem doing an all nighter to finish an assignment, well apart from trying to keep yourself from babbling in it.
Edit: Hmm... maybe I should stop drinking them, that is 3 grammer/spelling errors I have had to fix. -
I once drank 3 Mountain Dew Amps, and took two Yellow Jacket Caffine Pills before my music class. I always slept in that class, and I had no idea what was going on, so I did what was needed to stay awake. I was wired to say the least.....and I still fell asleep. What a waste of $10. Stupid World Music class.
-
World Music Class? Sounds like one of the classes the bludgers who do Bachelor of Arts at our University would take.
:P
I hear you though, no matter what degree/diploma you do their is always a class or two that is a sleepfest. For me it was 'Accounting in Decision Making' in the first semester and 'Business Information Systems' this semester.
I find the best method is to get totally wired on drinks like 'V' then listen to CDs/MP3s during the lecture and try and match up the words of the music with the lecturers.
Just out of interest, what degree/course are you doing tgpo? -
I'm a communications major with a cognate in Video Production. How about you man??
-
Bachelor Degree in Electronic Commerce (eCommerce).
How does the American college/university system work? Like what degree (i.e. Bachelor, Honours, Masters, PhD etc) will you get when you finish. I never really got like the whole "majoring in such and such" part. Does it mean like you focus on a particular aspect of the course or something? Also what does cognate mean?
I know for my course we have 'streams' that you choose. For mine their are like 4 that you choose one from (Information Environments, Software Engineering, Financial Management and Accounting) so would that be the equivilent of like your major? -

Ah okay, learn something new everyday.
Before this all I knew about the American system was that is was expensive and most of the students lived away from home.
Our system is similar fundamentally but a lot less complicated. -
For this semester I paid $2542 plus $315 for books....and I live at home.
-
Hehe, most of my 'knowledge' though comes from watching movies and they are generally set at places like Harvard so those figures are probably slightly out of whack with other colleges.
Your course is still about double what I pay though. Mine is like $2000 (Australian) a semester and books about $300. -

thats pronounced G-E-E-K isn't it ?Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons. -
No, that would be a NERD. NERDs learn by educating themselves on the subject matter. GEEKs just know everything, and nobody knows how they got that way.

I love this... this thread, we're talking about Nerds and Geeks (at one point it was drinks).
This other thread, about dumb newbies is now about beer.

Now we can ask ourself this... is hijacking a thread an "Art" or "Science"? (He asks as this thread gets hijacked yet again!)Swift Kick In The Butt $1.00

Hijacking is definitely an art. And, in keeping with the memory of this thread, I drink Coke.

A little of both. I prefer coke but if its not available, I wouldnt mind drinking pepsi.

TGPO and Pacman,
You guys are making me sick.
My youngest fell in love with Purdue, in Indiana. As an out-of-stater, tuition and board was 9500 a year.
She got homesick when she went back for her second year, after signing a lease on a 1/4 of an apartment, 250 a month, the phone wasn't installed till she was there 3 days (why I think she wanted to come home ).
Coming home would "save" me money, as, being a resident, she could go to Penn State for only 2400 a semester.
One semester there, and off to Duquesne University, at 13,500 a year.
Poor old dad.
George
Indiana residents paid 2000 a year at Purdue. ( I think that's the U, and not the chicken people, with the "e".)
To stay true to the poll, I drink a beer called "Classic", cheap, yet drinkable, to me at least.
Or Coke, when it's a soft drink, and I have a choice. Less sugar than Pepsi, yet for some reason, thicker seeming.
And, you can't beat an ice cold Coke when you got hot pipes. Pepsi don't hack it.
BTW, the daughter is back for her first week after 3 months maternity leave, to a job as marketing director at our largest local ISP being sold out of bankruptcy.
She's going for her Master's now, but ole dad doesn't have to pay. Might get to retire, yet. -
I think it's just natural to expect that a thread in the Off Topic will eventually wander off topic, that's half the fun.
I hear you though George, my friend at Uni comes from a family living in rural (outback) Queensland so they bought a house down here for her to live in whilst she goes to Uni, add to that the fact she is getting them to renovate the place and also they pay all her living costs it quickly adds up. -
Pacman,
I don't begrudge her education. Hell, I would have paid twice the amount to keep my baby happy.
If you recall, if it is even pertinent to an Aussie, the GREAT Ronald Reagan, got free college educations for California residents. At least I think he did it, and the budget crunch there has killed that.
When the kid was at Purdue, a few of her classmates quit school to live and work in state for 6 months to acquire residency, thus get the 2 grand rate. Good and bad, 6 months hiatus takes you out of the learning curve, I don't think you can learn as effectively..
God-damn, I think every child deserves as much education as he/she can absorb.
You are 2 generations behind me. Do you realize mine is the first generation to fear that our children will not live as well as we did? From the founding of this country (the US ), we hoped for our children to earn more than we did. Jesus Christ, what kind of life are my grands going to have? In my day, we had a job out of school, or went to the service, (choose to enlist in one of the 4, or get drafted into the Army ), then got our "lifetime" job, 35-40 years later, retire.
Now, your company may be bought tomorrow, you are gone. We are moving production to Bangladesh.
And tech workers are no exception. With the internet and telephony as it is, you may as well set up your tech support in India as here, just as credit card transactions are now, and a host of other services.
Your best bet is probably to start a business that you run yourself till you get tempting enough for all the hogs to buy you out.
Ah, man, I am depressed, for my kids/g'kids sake. And for you young people. There ARE no friggin' jobs.
Sorry to depress you guys,
George -

I think that is one area that the Australian government (past and present) have done extremely well in, looking after the future of our country.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going
You're right though, in the past you had maybe one or two jobs your whole career then retired. The only way to do that now is to become a public servant in the government and the only way to have any job security is to become your own boss.
I think the key to being sucessful in the future depends on how specialised or imitable you (and your skills) are. If your job can be replaced by someone in a third world country who only wants a third of what you are being paid then it is inevitable that it will be.
Also with the world becoming more globalised (it's happening already i.e NAFTA, EU) it's going to become normal for the average person to move from job to job and location to location. -
I'm paying for school myself. Which makes the $2500/semester the perfect price tag for me.
