  2. TMPGEnc has a merger/joiner, but since it sounds like you encoded the mpeg2 w/ the commericals, instead of removing them first, it will take multiple cuts & joins.

    VirtualDubMod? Will do it too I think, dont have it, but i think it will work w/ MPEG2s.

    If you use VirtualDub to capture to an AVI using Huffyuv Codec, you can use VirtualDub to editout the commericals then encode that to an MPEG2.
    Ejoc's CVD Page:
    DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy

    DVD:
    DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX

    Capture:
    VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author

  3. K im using tempgenc to cut right now, I like virtaldub alot. I'll that out that mod thing. Also i will try out the huffy codec.

  4. Ok the tmpgenc worked but the sound is a lil off. Anyway to fix this? And vdub wouldn't save it back into a mpeg2. Also when i convert an uncompress .avi to divx wit vdub i lose quality??

    I guess i try the huffy codec next.

  5. Simple rule, if you convert you lose quality. If you want MPEG2 dont go AVI->DIVX->MPEG2, go AVI->MPEG2. Huffyuv is a lossless AVI compression codec, just needs alittle more CPU during the capture.

    I like to use Womble MPEG2VCR to cut/edit. I use TMPGENC to join. The TMPGENC cut takes too long, up to 4x longer than Womble.

  7. I've been using honestech's Video Editor to cut and merge my MPEG-2 files and it works very well for that sort of thing. It'll even do some transitions and stuff like that but I've never used 'em.

    The only thing I've had to learn about this software the hard way is to use the FAST rendering method once you're ready to produce your output. The other two methods appear to change your field order somehow, not really sure how and maybe I just hit something weird, but when I used the new files to produce DVDs - I got the dreaded wiggly video whenever there was motion. I tracked it back in my process to this editor and then discovered that using the FAST rendering method doesn't result in this problem. The video I capture normally uses Field Order A and that gets changed somehow if you use this tool to cut and paste. Just FYI. Otherwise it's a very simple and effective editor.

    PS: I don't really understand all of the technology behind MPEG-2 video yet so I hope I made at least partial sense.
