  1. I am trying to edit a DVD I had made by a local company of a collection of old 8mm movies. I want to insert text that shows the location and date the movie was made, delete poor footage, and then make copies for the kids. I tried to use MyDVD that was packaged with my Sony DRU-510A burner. PowerDVD also came with the burner. When I try to capture and edit the DVD using MyDVD I get a screen that states "one or more files could not be imported". As I understand it, the DVD has .vob, .ifo, and . bup files in the Video_TS folder and they need to be mpeg2 files for me to use in MyDVD. Not sure what to do. Is there software that will allow me to change the files on the DVD to a mpeg2 file so I can edit it using MyDVD or is there other software (at a reasonable cost) that will allow me to edit the DVD in its present format. I purchased copies of DVDXCopy and DVDXCopyExpress to make copies of the DVD after I get it edited. I have a Micron Milennia PC at 1ghz, 256 MB Ram, 30 GB HD, and am running Windows 2000 Pro.

You have many options to do what you want. But understand the quality of the finnished dvd will be less than you have now.

If you want the best quality you can get, then use DVDdecrypter to rip the dvd into one big vob. Then open vob in Virtualdub-Mod. Convert to avi, then edit the avi with your video editor. Output the edited video to DVD-spec MPEG-2 and author DVD.

    Good luck!
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........
