  1. Ive worked my ass off the last week fiddling with settings to copy tv episode dvds onto dvd-r. Some problems have arised tho;

    Using dvd2svcd with svcd or dvd resolution the video gets a bit stuttery at places as if dropping some frames.. Not often but enough to annoy you.. Also the audio sync tends to be less than perfect at times.

    Therefore Ive resorted to using dvdshrink which produces great video quality in terms of flow and audio sync and the pixelation is moderate even at 50% compression (were talking tv eps here, vcd is the "model"

    Anyway, coming to my real problem, I have subtitles for these eps on srt files. Is there any way to add these? dvd2svcd is a shell for some program that does it but they only add them as svcd or cvd i believe. Or can it be done in scenarist or just with IFOEdit for example?

    many thanks!

  2. Yes, but not with DVD Shrink. You'll need to re-author the VOB files and mux the subtitles in. The problem is that there are only a few authoring programs that support subtitles: DVD Maestro, Scenarist, Reel DVD, Encore, and IFOEdit. The first two cost ~$35k/ea, the next two ~$550/ea and IFOEdit is free

    So most people use IFOEdit. There are guides to the left (and more info at http://www.doom9.org). You'll need to have your subtitles in SUP format for IFOEdit to mux them. There are utilities at doom9 to convert from one format to another (eg. SRT2SUP).

    Depending on how you want to work it you can then re-intergrate the authored VOBs back into the original DVD Filestructure using IFOUpdate, or just burn them directly.

    I'm not sure what you were trying to do with DVD2SVCD, but it only authors/muxes CVD and SVCD subtitles, neither of which are supported by the DVD standard.

  3. yup i just discovered how to split my vob files into m2v & ac3 files and the sup format in ifoedit that really seems the easiest way to go..
    all staked out now then.. in theory anyway
