  1. When playing back VCD's on my Panasonic XP30, I get audio dropouts.

The dropouts are repeatable on playback, so they're not random.
I've tried burning different media, and at different write speeds, to no avail.

The dropouts do not exist in the source file, and the VCD plays fine on the PC.

Is there something I can do to fix this?
Do I need to "downsample" the audio or something like that, before burning?

  3. The file is an MPEG. I ran it through GSPOT, but which information do I post?

  4. Is your VCD "Compliant Standart VCD" or "Non-standart VCD" ?
Sometimes, this type of problem occurs because VCD is not standart and DVD player can not play this type of non-standart VCD (header trick for example).
    Solution:
    1)Open TMPGEnc MPEG Tools section
    2)Go to multiplex tab
3)Load your VCD and post the results here.
    OR
3)Check if TMPGEnc shows either one of the following:
    For NTSC
    MPEG-1 Video 352x240 29.97 fps 1150 kbps
    MPEG-1 Audio Layer-2 44100Hz 224 kbps
    For NTSC
    MPEG-1 Video 352x240 23.976 fps 1150 kbps
    MPEG-1 Audio Layer-2 44100Hz 224 kbps
    For PAL
    MPEG-1 Video 352x288 25 fps 1150 kbps
    MPEG-1 Audio Layer-2 44100Hz 224 kbps

Had similar problem. On another thread, someone asked if the audio was stereo. Thought, "Of course, it's stereo." Even opened it in an audio editor to be sure. Yup, it's ster....

    uh oh

I had an officially stereo audio file, but the audio was only on one track -- it varied which track, but always only on one track. I mixed the two tracks together, and voila, it worked!!

I burn with Nero, and it says it's compliant VCD.

    TMPGEnc says:
    "For NTSC
    MPEG-1 Video 352x240 29.97 fps 1150 kbps
    MPEG-1 Audio Layer-2 44100Hz 224 kbps "

Does the problem lie in the audio bitrate?
If so, how do I lower it?

    Thanks.
