    I bought the Eliminator at
    LINK DELETED

A very useful tool to remove CGMS and Macrovision. I tried it on several DVD recorders and players. The unit was compatible with all of them.

I highly recommend it if you have DVD to DVd recording issues.

  3. I bought the Video Facet mentioned here.

Only tested it so far on a few movies.
Spice World, with the Spice Girls was giving me problems before, also the tape is going bad in a spot or two. Now it was no trouble at all! As perfect as the tape will let it be!

SOme others I captured about 20 minute clips, no sign of any problems yet. These were ones I could not capture before or had various problems with. Perfect captures now!

I am backing up my VHS tapes to the Pc, not DVD-DVD though.

  5. Best bet is a Sampo DVE631CF for $139, upgrade it to unofficial (but fully functional) firmware with CGMS/A flag switched off, job's a good 'un.

  6. Hi jennyandgreg!

The most afordable way to resolve your problem is to buy DAYTEK 871 DVD player. I bought it for only CDN$75.00 (about US$50.00) two weeks ago from Future Shop in Toronto. It is macrovision free and it plays DVD(NTSC and PAL - no conversion), CD, MP3, SVCD, CD-RW and Kodak Picture CD. I already made several perfect DVD backups with my Panasonic E-60.

Well Zoran, I bought this Daytek 871 at F.S. to-day. I was disappointed to find that it was just like the others: it is macrovision enabled. I could not look at (through my VHS deck) or record on VHS "My big fat Greek wedding" as it was perpetually going fom normal to dark to normal and so on..
Maybe you thought that is was macrovision free because you played older DVDs like "A fiddler on the roof", "Radio days" etc. These were looking macrovision free on my Toshiba DVD player also.

I am returning the Daytek 871 to F.S. Monday.
    Too bad,

I just made the plunge to DVD which I wasn't goung to do, but with the current state of HDTV I guess I will let this do untill the dust settles (if it ever does).

According to the 2nd post, the only way to copy DVD to DVD is within a computer, right?

What kind of copy protection does DVD have? Is it just Macrovision or is it something else? I am familar with Macrovision, it's very easy to get rid of in analog video, but what about DVD's in the digital domain??

BTW, I can't believe what some of these gagets are selling for that reinsert vertical blanking and sync.

"DVD Recorders can directly detect Colorstriping that virtually all black-box/video stabilizers on the market fail to remove. DVD Recorders can also detect a digital signal that is present in the video called CGMS/A. This digital signal tells the recorder that it is not allowed to make a copy of the video."

    Hi Yvon,

I am sorry to hear that your DAYTEK is not working like mine. My player is Model 1.8 , made June 2003. Few days ago I made a perfect backup copy from Matrix Reloaded on my Panasonic E60 as well as on my Sony DV recorder. I also know few other people who are very satisfied from this player. Strange...

    It's not for a computer.

For a computer all you need to make a DVD backup disc is a DVD burner, DVDshrink software, and a burning program like RecordNow Max or Nero.

  16. Hi everyone,
I have a newbie question for you. I have some SVCDs and DVDs that people have burned using their computers and sent to me. They contain various music videos and concerts etc from tv.

If I connect a DVD player to my Philips DVDR75 stand-alone recorder and copy these to DVD+R discs (using the component inputs and outputs on the machines) will I have any copy protection/macrovision etc problems doing this? Will these discs just copy normally to a DVD+R disc (without flickering etc) because they are not actual copyrighted movies?

I don't understand if DVD players and recorders have some kind of "built-in" copyright thing that stops you copying any discs, or if this copyright thing is only on the actual disc that you are trying to copy?

    Thanks

  17. Just in case you haven't yet found a good way to copy DVD to DVD I have the perfect device. Like one of the guys earlier said the AVT-8710 Time Based Corrector works fine. I have a Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD recorder and I connected this device between my LG DVD/VHS combo and the Panny and it so far has copied every single DVD. You can buy it on-line at http://www.avtoolbox.com/ for about $80 US.

  18. A buddy of mine and I pitched in on a "Video Clarifier" made by Clearline Concepts 5 years ago and I had forgotten all about it till this weekend when I took it borrowed it from him and sure enough I copied a whole VHS movie (Home Alone) to a DVD+RW to see if it would work, and it looked great ..no video fluctuations or anything...Perfect copy.

I see Ebay has them for sale once in a while and they are for sale on the net ..it costs around $30.

Here's an old ebay listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3052796723&category=298

No not at all! It only tells you Real DVD disk to a DVD R disk, nothing about computer mentioned!

Set top Player with DVD disk, and Set top recorder with DVD R, no computer needed. Conect device in between like a Facet video clarifier.

For computer, connect source VCR or DVD player and connect to facet video and connect that to a capture card. I do this for VHS captures, but why would anyone even want to for a DVD unless the computer has NO DVD drives and you just want it on the hard drive or to make a VCD.

ANY DVD drive in a computer will rip the disk faster than doing a capture, and using the correct software there is no problem with protections, so no device is needed.

  23. I MUST SAY THAT THE CLARIFIER DOES ITS JOB. I HAVE NO PROBLEM BACKING UP ANY OF MY DVDs NO MATTER WHO MADE IT. MY UNIT ARRIVED TODAY SO I RAN ALL THE NEEDED TESTS. THAT MEANS I HAVE COPYED EVERYTHING I PUT INTO IT. THE PICTURE QUALITY IS PERFECT AS I AM USEING THE S CONNECTORS AS THE SOURCE. I AM USEING A GE1101P FOR THE SOURCE AND THE RECORDER IS A PANASONIC DRM30. THIS LITTLE DEVICE IS EXPENSIVE=$100 BUT ITS WORTH EVERY PENNY. THIS UNIT IS ALOT BETTER THAN HACKING YOUR PLAYER AND BURNING UP THE CHIP. RECOMMENDED HIGHLY. OH BY THE WAY THE DESTRIBUTOR CLAIMS IT WILL WORK OR YOUR MONEY BACK. WELL IT REALLY WORKS. GOODBYE TYPE 1 AND 2. AND IT WILL WORK FOR VHS ALSO.
