Can you please advise me on which DVD-ROM's on the market are able to be made Region Free.
As I am having difficulty decifering which reliable products have firmware to unlock the regions perminately.

  2. Here's a good website for the type of information you seek. Hopefully soon someone from this board will share their successful region free experiences with their specific player - in the meantime check out this site.

  4. A good many DVD-ROM drives can be made region free these days, however if you're looking for a recommendation I'd throw my Lite-On into the mix.

When I was looking to replace an old Matsushita that couldn't read recordable DVD media, the Lite-On's had a number of things going for them:

    1. Some can be software toggled if you don't want to invalidate your warranty.

    2. Lots of firmware hacks for the Lite-On's per se - obviously a popular range of drives or very easy to locate the region coding in the EPROM.

    3. Phenominal ripping speeds compared to some... these things move !

    4. Cost.

I got a 165 for about £25, which is a bit of a bargain IMHO. It works very well and I freely recommend it.

Hi, as well as hardware check out some software. I typed "dvd region free" in Google (www.google.com - excellent search engine if you've not discovered it) and it brought back some results that could be of use to you.

I personally use DVD Region Free on my PC(http://www.dvdidle.com/download.htm) without any problems.

    Good luck.
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

  9. Oh yes, you will probably require something like DVD Genie if you're planning on using multiple region discs with PowerDVD / WinDVD etc...
