    What exactly does the term firmware mean and what is the purpose of it. I can't find a definition of it in any of the glossary's. Thanks!

    firmware is softer than hardware....
    firmware is harder than software....
    from my understanding its basic onboard instructions for pieces of hardware.

    What do these instructions do? How do i know what firmware i am using, or if it is correct for my hardware.
