  1. Ok so here is where i'm at, i put the video on my computer from my camcorder using DVIO, and its a type 2 avi, the file is really big, its 18 gigs and its an hour an a half long. So i got it now i tried using dvdit to make chapters and menus but i can't get that working. So i need help to figure out how to shrink it to fit on a dvd but i also want good quality on the video. Is there any methods or programs you can recomend doing this with. And can i only burn it onto a dvd-r or can i use a dvd+r?

Click here for your guides, and the gurus cannot answer your burner question without knowing what burner you own. They are knowledgeable, but not clairvoyant (except for maybe Tgpo, but that is another story).

Then you can only burn DVD+R and DVD+RWs.

Yes, you can store information on them as well. But for now, try a guide that tells you how to use DVDit! to make DVDs. Click here.

Since your video file is so big, you may have to give some programs some time to do it. Maybe try to encode only part of your video in TMPGEnc, just to see if it works (remember to use rewriteable disks). Or let DVDit do it overnight while you sleep. The key here is patience.
