  1. i have converted a mpeg2 into a vcd with Cinema craft encoder. when i watch it on the pc the brightness is normal but when i burn it and play it in my apex 600a dvd player it is a lot brighter. all the whites are very bright and it kinda ruins the video. any ideas what is causing this brightness? p.s. im using nero 5.5.10 to burn.

  2. TVs and Monitors are different in the way that they work. Without get too technical monitors are usually much brighter and have higher contrast than a TV. A TV when compared to monitors is very low resolution and poor definition. So if a picture appears just right on the PC it will almost certainly be too bright on a TV. This needs to be taken into account at the encoding stage if producing VCDs etc for play back on a TV.

  3. I don't remember this well, so I might get the specifics wrong.
Look for a 0-255 color space setting. I think you don't want 0-255.

Basically, there is a range of intensity. Computer monitors are ok with the full range. TVs are not. The encoded range should be less, 16-235.

Also, read up on gamma. Colors are not displayed the same on a TV or PC monitor or Mac.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction. You should be able to search for things like 0-255. Here is a good one from adam :
