I have a 65" 16x9 ratio TV, but several DVD's that I own have a very slim letterbox, while others that I have will fill up the entire screen perfectly. My TV can change the view format for some with a letterbox by simply expanding the letterbox to fill the screen. Other DVD's have such a slim letterbox that even when expanded barely take up the space that a normal letterbox would.
Is there a reason for this? Also, can I copy these DVD's and reformat them to take up the full screen? It's kind of stupid for these DVD's to have such a slim format, I just can't understand how anyone could even watch them on a normal sized TV, they'd be so small.
Thanks!

The reason that some have very slim black bars is because they most likly have a ratio of 2:35 or 2:40.Should say on the back of the dvd case.
The ones that file the tv have a ratio of 1:85,or sometimes a bit smaller i.e 1:77.
They are still widescreen movies just with a different ratio.Big 3 User.....
