  1. I just want to make sure:

Playstation 2 def. plays DVDs (both original and homemade), right?
    Withour any add-ons?

And does PlayStation 1 play home-made VCDs or do you have to buy something special for it?

What is the add-on (if any) that you have to buy for it.

I was reading some of the things people had to say about PS1 and VCDs and it really confused me.

Does anyone here play home-made VCDs on theis PS1?

    tHANKS for all your help.

Please post here or e-mail me at kirashka@aol.com or SLYNNGEIS@aol.com

I have never read anything about PS1's playing anything other than PS1 games and Music Cd's.

  4. I just tested PS1 w/ VCDs.

Sadly, it does not work. PS1 knew that my homemade VCD had 2 tracks, but could not play it.

With the add-on, will homemade VCDs play?

  5. Yep. With that add-on, home-made VCDs would play, but my experience with it was on the older model PS1. It isn't worth it though, your PS1 would end up overheating after prolonged play.

  7. Those mods are generally more expensive then actually buying a DVD player that can play VCD's.

Newer psone models don't have the i/o port so the external vcd adapter has no place to go. If you have one of these models you'll have to purchase the internal vcd card, which must be soldered to specific points within the unit like a mod chip. Playing VCDs on the psone puts an incredible strain on the unit's laser. After using such an adapter on my psone the laser crapped out in only a few months. These days you can purchase a (S)VCD compatible DVD player for less than one of these adapters, so I can't say I recommend using the PSX as a VCD player.

For the price of the card and the PS1 you could buy a stand alone VCD player (possibly portable). So it would be a neat thing, but if it burns the laser out, not worth much.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
