  1. I am trying to make a backup copy of the extended version.When I put it in my computer it says that windows can't recognize the file,either the file is corrupted or it is in a format unrecognized by windows.Weird thing is that I have all the codecs installed plus have powerDVD and videolan.When I try to autoplay the disc it says again that windows can not recognize the file etc.
    This is the first time I have ever seen this happen as I have ripped alot of my DVDs but with this Extended version..nothing.Not even recognized anyone have any suggestions I might try?Any comments would be greatly appreciatted.

  3. what are you using to rip it? I've seen DVD that wont play, but dvddecrypter worked fine.
    Ejoc's CVD Page:
    DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy

    DVD:
    DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX

    Capture:
    VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author

  4. I have smartripper and dvddecrypter.My problem is that the DVD disc isn't even recognized on windows xp.Yet any of my other DVD's work perfectly fine.When I put in LOTR-FOTR it says Windows Xp can not recognize either the file is corrupted or the format is unsupported by windows.Doesn't make sense considering I have mpeg-2 codec and all other working codecs.Lilke I said I put in a few of my other DVDs and they start up fine.
    When I do put in LOTR-FOTR my DVD rom acts like it is going to play it than all of a sudden stops and does nothing.I have tried the other 3 discs in the set and same thing happens.None of the discs are scrathed in anyway.I can put any one of the 4 discs in my stand alone DVD player and they play perfectly.

    I've seen some DVDs that have a special encoding at the outer rim that prevents them from being recognized in a PC (or a Mac). The solution I read was to use a black marker (like a sharpie) and rub it around the disk on the outer edge and just a tiny amount on the underside of the disc. I'm talking about a few mm at most, certainly not in what you would call the "data" area.

    Hope this helps.

    I doubt FOTR Extended would be dvd-rom disabled since it contains dvd-rom extras on the disc. It may be the disc is damaged preventing windows from running the install program for the dvd player software that is included on the dvd.

  7. I don't know if this will help you or not. But, I have a LG DVD-Rom and it won't play LOTR unless I update the firmware. If your DVD-Rom is a LG, go to their website and check it out.

  8. I am having the exact same problem that Fistandantilus is having. I have yet to be able to read/play/backup the 4 discs on my pc. They are all brand new and have no scratches/smudges whatsoever on them. I would LOVE to back them up because I have a 19 month old who loves to watch FOTR/TT. I am afraid that the originals will get TOO scratched smudged from consistent use/play on the standalone.

    Has anyone tried marking the outer edge/rim of the disk with a black sharpie to see if that "tricks" the computer into reading it?
