  1. I don't think the new "computer forum" posts should be listed on the home page becuse they really are "off topic" kinda like how the off topic posts are not listed....

I don't mean to be picky, but I would guess most people come here for video/DVD related stuff, and not general hardware/software issues.

I agree 100 percent. I come here for the video/audio conversion related stuff. I'd rather read about people ranting and raving about some conversion problem, than Windows/Linux, e-mail, viruses, etc, or just something like "upload a picture of your computer"
    Just my opinion

You may be right. But then Feedback shouldn't show up either.

  4. Since when are Off Topic posts not listed? You must have some secret setting applied that I don't know about - I see Off Topic posts right up there with the rest of em in Latest Posts

I think its a wondeful idea.
The OFF TOPIC page was practically becoming a COMPUTER FORUM of its own.
I believe the off topic page is to be, well off the topic of comptuers in general be it anything related to a comptuer.
I think its great there is a computer forum, keep the off topic forum just that, off topic

even more so now that coptuers are a topic

When I go to the sites home page I see no off topic posts. Didn't do anything special, it's always been that way.

If you go ALL the way back to just plain old dvdrhelp.com you wont see the forums unless you click on FORUM.
Once you are there, (the forum home / root page) you should see OFF TOPIC listed under OTHER

    Other
    ---------- Off topic
-----------Talk about anything that doesn't belong in any other forums here. But no warez-, politics- or religion posts.

    Its listed there for me!

    Not the forum homepage.

  9. Ok, since I asked for it, I'll defend it:

The reason I wanted the computer forum, and why we need it, is because you can't just go into video without knowing your computer and keep enchancing it to make it faster, store more video, etc. {Example}You can ask about installing a new hard drive and get an answer on the site which told you to get that new harddrive for video editting in the first place!

    Thank you, galactica.

Off Topic was posted on the main page way back when but Baldrick moved it because there were too many flamewars and offensive posts.

  11. I'm not saying there shouldn't be one, I'm just saying posts in it should not be listed on the home page, just like posts in off topic aren't

I remember when Off topics showed up on the main entrance page. If I remember correctly it was removed about the same time a long thread started related to "Do you watch porn?" or something similar. It was a very popular thread for some and stayed on the front page quite a while.

I think off topic was made to not show up right on the front page - wisely - because some threads may have been off-putting to an audience coming for some video know-how.

Hopefully! computer issues won't have that same potential problem, but then again,I saw one called Sex & Computers within the first day of launching the new computer forum, so, who knows.

Why's everyone worried about where the damn thing is? You have to do a search, or what?
I click DVDRHelp.com in my browser, click on posts since last visit, get anywhere from 1 to 600, and browse. Or go to Off Topic, or, if we get a new topic, Computers, and it's all there

I hate to keep using the phrase prima donnas, but, jeez, you gotta have everything handed to you? You can't just go to the whole schmear of the site? You gotta have YOUR site poke you in the eye when you click?

Set your gdamned browser to that as your home page, instead of the Simpson's gag of the day.

    Sheesh.

I think the name of the site is DVDRHelp.com, not computerhelp.com, but I could be confused I come here for help with, and to help people with video/audio conversion problems, not to help them install a new video card, or hard drive (not saying that I don't think it's great that there is a place where people can get help with that sort of thing). I don't think we're being "prima donnas", I just think (as I'm pretty sure other people do) that people with video/audio conversion problems should be given a higher priority (on the main dvdrhelp.com page) than people who need help installing more RAM. But this is Baldrick's home, and we're all just guests here

    Jid10t,
You are exempted. I don't think you're a "prima donna", as you seem to look at all the posts, not, "Ohhhh, I wanna see what's inXXX!!!"

I don't know why we should have a special "What's Broke" column.

There are a lot of guys that ask questions about 'Puter probs, and they all seem to get answers.

hey, are you in tech support? The first time I saw your ID, I LMAO.l

    What's the "J" for?

    Cheers,

    George

    gmatov:
The J is for my first name, Josh. I've been using that ID for years now, and the only reason I put a J in front was because when I first started using it as a user name I couldn't start my user name with a number. Not very many people get my user name (in fact, most of my friends still don't get it). No, I'm not in tech support, at least not officially I've just gotten into the web design business with a friend.
And I do think that the computer section is good, so no one get me wrong there. In fact that would be the best place for most people to get help, instead of trying to go though a tech support department, which can either make you want to trash your computer, or the company that you are having problems with

I am 100% for the computer forum, whether or not it shows up on the damn home page doesnt bother me a bit. All I can say is that there are many intelligent people here that I would rather help me out with any problems that I cant handle myself.

I agree, but I would guess that many of the members that have been here for a while and know that alot of the other members can really help out with a problem that they may be having should not have to go to a totally different web site. I can only speak for myself but I visit this site damn near everyday, this is the only site I am a member of, so I have a problem that I know my friends here can help out with, I will come here and open up a new topic.

Man, all this commotion because some guy suggested the computer posts might be best not appearing on the main page.
And anyway, he's absolutely right in what he says, this is a video related site and pretty much like some of the off-topic posts don't need to appear on the main page neither does the thread 'how do you fit a floppy to a PC?'.
Man, you don't first come to this site for PC help, so why should we risk bombarding the front page with PC problems and run the very small risk of turning away new members?
If you spend enough time here you'll stumble across the computer forum anyway, it's not hard to miss.
Man, all that makes me sound like I give a shit, it's not exactly an important point, is it?
Anyway, I guess it's a simple proceedure for Baldrick and his call at the end of the day.
Oh, and by the way, whilst I didn't start it, the thread 'how often do you watch porn' was never intended to be smutty, offensive or degrading. It was simply a taboo subject and caused so much commotion became hilarious!
For the fuss it caused it was kept alive by a small 'band of brothers' for that very reason.
Talk about fanning the flames of irrelevance
