  1. I've taken an .avi file and run it through TMPGEnc, and am about to burn it using Nero (my first attempt). I am following the directions given at:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/nero.htm

    Now, in step 2, it says 'Check the time. It should be exactly the same as in the movie'. Unfortunately, I've tried twice, and the time is not the same. The original movie in .avi format is 57.14 The movie after converting it to mpeg format is 56.20 And when I load the mpeg into Nero to burn it to disc, it says that it is 62:00.18.
    On my first attempt, when I loaded the mpeg into Nero, it said it was 91:02.35 I ended up lowering the bitrate in TMPGEnc from 2000 to 1290, and ended up with the one which Nero now says is 62:00.18, which will burn to disc, but is obviously not the same length as the original. I got the bitrate (1290) by using the Bitrate finder by Kyuu. I put 57min 14 sec, and 224Kb/sec for Audio into it and it gave me a bitrate of 1290. This is right is it not?
    Anyways, I guess what my question is, is that does it matter that Nero says that the time is not exactly the same as in the movie? Can I just go ahead and burn it anyways? Or how can I go about getting the time to be exactly the same as in them movie?

    Thanks for your time in advance,

    avi = 57.14?
    mpg = 56.20?
    nero = 62.00?

    wow! quite a difference in total time. i've seen certain MPEG players display total time based on the size of the MPEG, where a 700Mbyte MPEG = 70 minutes, 730Mbyte MPEG = 73 minutes, etc., based on some standard VCD video bitrate (1150kbps?), even though it was a VBR XVCD with over 90 minutes of audio/video. i find that as long as i use the "MPEG-1 VideoCD (non-standard)" setting for my final MPEG in TMPGEnc, i don't usually worry about what another application thinks is the total time.

  3. K... I'll try using the MPEG-1VideoCD (non-standard) and see what happens after I burn it to disc. Another question though - should I leave the bitrate at 1150 (default, in TPMGEnc)? Is it even worth my while to use the amount the bitrate finder gave me (1290)? Thnx.

  4. Alright, problem solved! I just upgraded my Nero from version 4 to 5+ and viola! the time matched up EXACTLY! You can probably forget about the bitrate question. I think if I were to have used 1290. that would have given me the highest quality movie that would have fit on 1 disc. It wouldn't have affected the time. Right?

    Cheers
