  1. I've already got my video authored, with chapters and menu, but I've got a good bit of room left over and I wanted to include a bunch of family photos on the DVD as well. Preferably I'd like to make the pictures into a slideshow that would play after the main movie is finished, but I cannot get my hands around how to author the two seperately (movie, slideshow) then get them to play nice together. Any help on this would be appreciated.

One last question, can I just put the pictures into a folder on the DVD and just let the family view them on the computer? Meaning, can I make a PICTURES folder along with my video/audio_ts and stick all my images in there, and still have the DVD play correctly?

I tried this once and it worked, but it was on a player that is very lenient (apex), and I was wondering if I add a "Pictures" folder to my DVD would it preclude other players from reading it correctly. Thx in advance for your time.

I'd also be willing ot explore other ways, like making them into menus..but it would be cumbersome to resize all those pictures and it would be my last choice.

Thx for the tip philly33flyers....does anyone know if adding my own folder with pictures inside (for viewing on a computer) will break compatability? ..or will most dvd players just overlook extra folders?

Ulead DVD Workshop *does* support inclusion of slides and video on the same disc.

The slides are called IMAGE TITLES within Ulead DVD Workshop.

Have you looked through the tutorials on the Ulead Web site?

The Ulead DVD Workshop tutorials are located here:

There's also a book about Ulead DVD Workshop:

  6. I've been a huge fan of Ulead DVD PictureShow...that was with VCD Slideshows. However, it SUCKS for DVD Slideshows? Why, simple it is bloated beyond belief for file size. Now it's fine if you doing a couple hundred photos then go fo it. But just cuz it has transitions it reauthors into an mpeg2 video.

Solution: Sonic MyDVD (came bundled with my sony dru500ax and my Lite-On LDW-401S 4X DVD+RW. It's awesome. It makes stills just like in the old days.
Also has transitions but takes 8.5 times more space. Still Ulead PictureShow takes about 1,000 times more space (no exaggeration either). A still image is typically around 100KB and and transition bewteeen to still images is about 850KB. So to add .mp3 as a soundtrack is just a tad more than adding transitions. Since I'm trying to fit about 6,000 images on one DVD+R I choose not to use transitions.

Word of warning..if you don't have 256MB of memory and a faster computer say 1.5GHz then Sonic MyDVD might not be for you. I've read posts saying it frooze on them....well it sure seems resource hungry once you say 'Preview' or 'Render motion menus', etc. but it does finish if you let it. Too many bobbers out there with 1GHz babys out there.

If it didn't come with your burner I think amazon has it for $63 (bad reviews for it but those people = bobbers). http://www.mydvd.com

forgot to mention one of the biggest advantages it has over Ulead PS is that it has a 'synch audio track to slideshow' so say you have a 5 sec interval with 75 photos which is 6 mins and 15 secs..and your mp3 is only 4 mins and 36 secs...so you click that button and voila it changes your interval to 3.68 secs so it's in SYNCH with your slideshow...AWESOME. I really hoped that feature would make it into Ulead PictureShow 2 but sadly it didn't.

One more thing..yes you can add video also to your DVD in addition to the slideshows.

Yay! Thx for that tip, Ulead DVDWS does indeed support this. For those wondering, just select the images you want to be included and drag them into the edit timeline and each picture will become a chapter in that chunk. You can adjust slideshow delay on a per image basis, and put background music etc to it. This method worked quite well, and the image out put was spot on. Thx to all the others for their suggestions as well, I was on a short time schedule and had to use the tool I was most familiar with but I'll check out the other suggestions for future use.

I looked through those tutorials before I posted here, but they mention nothing about making a slideshow (or image titles).

  8. Great tip! I've used Ulead DVD Workshop many times but I didn't know it could do that. I've got a question though. When I try to add more than 20 pictures (or 20 chapters in a DVD) it says that my version only supports 20 chapters. I'm using version 1.2, is there a version that supports more than 20 chapters?

  9. Assuming you've paid for the program, update to 1.3.
