Quality not sure of but speed yes, when I went from my VooDoo 3DFX 16 meg PCI card to My current Voodoo 5 5500 64meg AGP, everything on the computer, including encoding became faster.
So getting a 32 meg or even better a 64 meg Gforce 2 card would be a great help, Gforce even has out a 32 meg or 64meg Personal Cinema card that is Gforec2 and a MPEG1/2 encoder built on with all imputs and outputs, AGP only
32 meg- $149 64meg - $199. -
at http://www.pricewatch.com they have Radeon ultra 64mb video cards for 149$. I ordered one yesterday, it can capture video too.

Ill answer that for ya! I had 8meg AGP, went to Nvidia Geforce MX400 with 64 megs of ram.. Not a bit of difference. Why? All the compression is done on the computer, not the video card.
To get faster performance, the only option is a faster computer!
