My thoughts on PC/MAC...
I don't own a MAC but this is from what I've seen and what some of my friends say that I agree with.
What is nice about a MAC is they are your one stop source for everything you need. They build the system, supply the software and support the community. They don't have inexperienced or a lot of 3rd party developers coming out with software that may be poorly writen or supported.
Very few errors or incompatibilities between different software, hardware and the OS.
Probably also what you are paying for.
Reason MACs don't have virus problems like PCs is not because they are MACs and those are PCs but because of the ammount of ppl using PCs and windows. Offices use mainly PCs that are windows based so they aim for that. Though tt doesn't help that MS software is not as secure as it should be.
PC is great because of its upgrade path and expandability with the variety of software and even the same software solution by different developers.
That is what causes a lot of the errors as well. Also PCs offer a lot of performance in certain areas over MACs just like MACs offer good performance in video editing.
I could build a quality PC from case and hardware to OS and software that has the reliability of a MAC or Server system but I would have to be picky on what I chose. It would have the same performance, functionality and ease of use but for only bit less than a MAC. I really couldn't get that from a system builder like Dell, Gateway or HP.
From personal experience with a PC, I have not had any real problems for the lenght of time that I have built my own PCs. I've installed hardware from tv tuner cards to IDE controller/raid cards and software from winamp to Pinnacle Studio 8. I know a lot of how things work and so I avoid many small problems as well. Running the free software that allows me to work/play on my PC is great as well as saving money.
Those CompUSA warranties are great. PC/MAC service is great. They even have training. lol
I especially love the Replacement warranties. Drop the device, crack the LCD or bring it in in pieces in 1 or 2 yrs and grab a new one off the shelf and go home. Their 2yr printer replacement plans are 30$ but I think their PDA ones are around...70 or 100 for 1-2 yrs.
