  1. I am currently trying to convert an mpeg-1 file to dvd compatability, but upon encoding completion, The sound is out of synch.

When the original file is played in wmp, it plays fine, but if I play it in vdubmod, it has the same audio synch problem of the resultant file.

I have tired using Tmpegenc, Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2 and, Nero 6 to encode the file all with the same results.

Anyhelp with solving this issue would be appreciated.

My stats are in my info.

  2. the sync issue is probably IN your video/audio stream. There are a few guides that explain how to clear them up.

What is the frame rate and are you converting it to the same frame rate?

with whatever the sync issue is (gradual or "2 seconds" too fast/slow throughout the entire movie) you will need to demux your video audio stream. One app that can do that is TMPGENC.

If the sync issue is gradual in and out, check TMPGENC and make sure the audio/video sync button is checked/unchecked(cant remember which one it is suppose to be). That is one of a few possible solutions

If the sync is 2 second'ish off the entire move, you can use TMPGENC to cut the offending seconds off or stretch it, etc.

post back with more info and I'll see what I can do.

If you are converting an mpeg1 in VCD format to DVD, then it is not necessary to do any encoding. VCD resolutions are DVD compliant and only the sampling rate of the audio needs to be changed. Check for a VCD to DVD guide.

  4. Zippyp. I read over your response saying that VCD resolution is a DVD standard. My understanding (which I brought up in another post) is that it actually isn't for full compliance. a dvd player will play a resolution of 352x480 at 48mhz and a 720x480 and a 704x480, but may not play a 352x240 with the audio ramped up to 48mhz.

Said another way, if "A" dvd player can play DVD-R/DVD+R of a dvd that has a resolution of 352x480(CVD with 48mhz audio),720x480,704x480, GOP's are correct, etc., it still may NOT play a 352x240 made DVD-R/DVD+R.

    Is it different for PAL????

I refer you to this page for DVD specs., and this guide for converting VCD (or SVCD) to DVD.

VCD-mpeg1 is DVD compliant video and should play on most (if not all) DVD players.
