  1. i have encoded many mpeg2 clips with tmpg and i was always curious about this option when encoding (under the quantinize matrix tab)

"no motion search for still picture part by half pixel"

using tmpg dvd template and some others it has it checked, but if you read what it says, it sounds better being unchecked instead

"eliminates blur at no motion part, however slight motion will be spoiled as a side effect"

Since im doing dvd and the picture and bitrate are high enough would it be safe to keep this unchecked or should i leave it checked?? Also doing some pal to ntsc conversion and i want to make sure it will not affect anything--thanks again

I was having the same question myself some time ago with Tmpgenc. If I "translate" what that option says, it says that it enables half-pixel motion search. (BTW, the same option exists in Mainconcept).

Half-pixel motion search is one of the strong-points in MPEG-2 and is supposed to be "wanted" to be enabled. My totally subjective opinion is that enabling this option of-course slows the encoder, but it generates a bit smoother output and better picture at a lower bitrate.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
