  1. Hey all -

I just bought a new 32" flat tube TV and I want to calibrate for the best picture. I saw that there is an AVIA dvd to help with this. It looks like it is around $50. Anyone use this?

Anyone know where to get a DVD that helps calibrate picture quality for a better price?

    Thanks,

    E

  2. Those kind of DVD's can help, but if you want the absolute best possible picture from your TV, hire a proffesional. This kind of setup requires a small amount of special equipment, lots of knowledge and experience and most of all, access to the manufacturers hidden menus.

  3. I have the AVIA disk and the test patterns are quite useful.

Video Esentials is another option. There is a new one comming out in a few weeks, and it is $18 on Amazon.

To really goof with your TV you will need to get into the factory setup menu. What is the brand?

I'd say a professional for a 32" tube is a bit of overkill. For a large projection that's probably a good idea.

I found that the perfect setup was an illusion. There are too many factors such as source and room light level. If you have "user modes" you can easily switch to that is the best. That way you can setup a good DVD at Night setting. This would probably not be bright enough with dull colors for Saturday morning cartoons.

  4. I don't know how good these things are but if you have X-men or another movies that is THX certified it has a THX setup, you follow through the steps. It's probably not too good, but it's probably better then nothing if you don't want to spend the $50

    Just a thought

You should be asking this question at avsforum.com

When you get there go to the forums section, then to the area that specifically relates to your type TV which is the "Direct View" section. Once there look for all the info you need. You can probably do a search as well, and perhaps someone will have posted the code to enter the service menu. Happy hunting.

  8. You could try this to get into the service menu. Writting down the settings before changing them IS a good idea.
