I'm stomped on this one. I recently upgraded the OS on my capturing maching to WinXP and it made an unexpected improvement in the capturing using WinFast PVR. With Win2000 I couldn't capture anything above VCD without getting dropped frames and distorted audio. Now I can capture in DVD with only some minor flaws.
But my question is this. Since I can now capture at a higher resolution I recently captured some video from TV using MPEG-2, 640x480, 3500Kbps and MPEG-1 audio Layer 2. This card doesn't give me the option to capture in SVCD so I thought I would just capture at this setting, import into Visual Studio 7.01, chop out the commercials encode to SVCD and burn to disk.
For some unknown reason I loose the audio sync when I encode with VS7. Also tried TMPG and get the same results. The original file captured from WinFast PVR is in perfect sync. So for some reason it seems like the encoders don't like something about these files.
I don't think the problem is with VS7 as it works fine with PVR VCD files and I have also captured video from VHS thru Canopus ADVC100 and haven't had a single problem. Problems are all with the lastest captured files above VCD resolution.
Hoping someone has maybe a solution or something else to try. My current fix was to return the capture setting to VCD until I can figure out what's going on.

I think you need to ensure that your 'standards' are in sync - ie, your capture is 25fps (to go to PAL) and Audio is 48KHz, and then ensure your encoder is set the same (ie PAL 25fps) and Audio is 48KHz when multiplexing.
I'm amazed your PVR doesn't capture at the standard resolutions though - 640x480 is a 'PC' or 'VGA' resolution and not ideal.... -
There are a number of guides that address this issue.
I partially solved my problem by going into Tmpenc setup, and moving a driver 'up' (Directshow?) in priority. This allowed me to convert all Divx movies without sound issues - except ones with VBR audio - tmpenc seems to blow on those. Using VirutalDub to make a .WAV file of the audio, then using that as the audio source in tmpenc solves that issue. -
First of all thanks to everyone for the input. I checked I am capturing and encoding at 29.97fps, audio 44.1KHz. What is definitely different is the capture resolution is 640x480 and I'm trying to encode it to 480x480. Almost seems like the problem must be in the resolution.
Also tried increasing the DirectShow priority in TMPG and that didn't help either. At this point if I loose the file, well it's certainly not the end of the world, but I still would like to know why I'm having trouble. I'll play around more with the files and see if I can stumble on anything. At this point I would even take the file in VCD format, but encoding to VCD hoses the sync as well. I've deleted that capture setting from WinFast...going to use the VCD capture setting again for now. Thanks again.
