This is the problem: i've been using tmpgenc to convert my divx into vcd for more than a year without problems. Then suddenly something happened: my pc started freezin' during the process without any other application runnin'. Then i tried different versions of tmpgenc...newer and older ones...no result! Then i updated my codecs...no way! Then i formatted and reinstalled winxp pro...nothin'
I've installed nimo codec pack 8 and latest ffdshow, changed priority in vfapi settings according to many posts, tried with many divx....i don't know what to do. I think that the codecs are ok beacause windows media player plays perfectly every movie. No idea...please help me!!![]()
Thanks in advance....![]()

I've installed nimo codec pack 8
Bad, bad, bad! Could very well be the root of your problem. Couldn't even make WMP to play AVI after install. Had a really hard time cleaning my system...

WMP plays everything fine.... during installation i took care of the incompatibility warning between 2 codec....however, which other pack can i install instead of nimo?

The rule is: Codec packs are evil. To boot, Nimo packs (at least used to) contain spyware, which has to be removed using AdAware if privacy is on the list of your concerns.
If a particular AVI wont play, use GSpot to tell you what codec is needed, then install this codec. Maybe a pain on a fresh system, but pretty soon your computer will be equipped with all codecs needed (and nothing else) to succcessfully decode 99.9% of all AVIs you happen to stumble on. The pain involved in trying to get rid of conflicting codecs and filters is, as you are experiencing, not insignificant.
Note that I can't be sure that it's the codec pack that is your problem - I'm only saying that it's highly likely, judging from my own and fellow DVDRhelpers experiences.

If all your avi's play fine then I would suspect a hardware issue of some sort. Perhaps memory or maybe CPU overheating. You could confirm overheating issues by running a different program that takes 100% cpu (like TmpGenc does) for several hours, try the Set screen saver for this.

First of all, thanks for your answers, mates!!
I too think that maybe it's an hardware problem, in fact i did a RAM test to see if everything is ok....no errors. So, maybe it's an overheating problem, even if my xp2200+ never gave me such problems. Which progs should i use for testing?
Another chance is uninstall nimo and install only divx and xvid codecs....i'll try! -

Have you installed any new hardware i.e PCI cards, I have had a similar problem that caused TMPGEnc to reboot my PC.
This also happened using Besweet, these problems occured after i had broadband Internet installed i.e a NIC card i swapped the cards about and this resolved the issue I cant run things like EDonkey P2P program at the same time as TMGEnc or it crashes. My conclusion was that one of my cards was hogging the PCI Bus causing a serious conflict. -
No, i didn't install new hardware...i can't remember if i installed new progs, but i was sure that after an xp reinstall everything came back to normality. No way....

I found the solution!!!
my pc was overheated!!!I opened the case to let it cool easily and surprise: no freeze!!!!
Thanks to everybody!!!
