  1. What capture card would be best for me, I do TV captures of tv shows that range from primarily dark to fast action and sometimes animation.

hardware encoding of 720x480 dvd's must at least do 4mbps since that fits 3 42 minute shows on one DVD.

I would prefer that it works in Linux so that I can capture in Linux then later cut out commercials and author with menus in Winblows.

I AM NOT rich so maybe a selection of prices that I could choose from

  3. I have a question for anyone with Hauppauge WinTV-PVR card or anyone that knows chipsets

Which one is best I found a comparison of a few Wintv cards and I would be willing to lose all the features of the 350 and use a cheaper 250 since I don't plan on fm radio and can live without output *graphics card has output which I rarely use.

So what is the differences in encoded video quality between chipsets considering I hate mpeg artifacts and bad quality. Unlike some people who think VHS is the same quality as DVD I plan on mostly using 4mbps quality and wish I could capture 720x480 uncompressed then use multipass encoding but can't afford that
