If you don't want to use dvd2avi, use vob2audio, that extract the audio only. http://www.doom9.org/v2a_mp3.htm
Instead of converting to .mp3 you can also save it as .wav.
Vob2audio requires a .lst file, that smartripper creates automaticly. If you use a different ripper, it is easy to write a .lst. Type in notepad for example:
D:\MATRIX\vts_02_1.vob
D:\MATRIX\vts_02_2.vob
D:\MATRIX\vts_02_3.vob
and so on and save it as vts_02.lst to the directory, where you saved the .vob files.

Actually, when you use DVD2AVI, there will be two files created, one of them is the .WAV which contain the audio only (usually HUGE). The other is a tiny bit file representing the video (it does not really contain any video in it, just info about the VOB files).
This is how I get music audio track from DVD.
