Okay, I am just trying to capture just a begining of a friends episode for a DVD I am makeing. So I capture it but when I play it back there is no sound. But when I was capturing I heard it coming from my pc speakers.
Now I remember somewhere, not sure if it was this site, someone showed instructions of how to fix this by messing with the volume controls...I have my capture card audio cable going from the capture card to the mic port. I have my pc speakers on the line in port, is this right? And do any of you know how to fix this?

Certainly isn't! Your speakers should be on the line out port of the soundcard and your capture card audio wan't to be in the line in port. There are two problems with trying to use the mic port. It is usually mono to start with and, as a mic produces very low audio levels, has much higher gain than line in. This usually results in clipped and distorted (mono) audio.

Before doing a capture, you need to ensure you are recording from the correct port. Open up your audio mixer and check it in there. Assuming you are using the standard Windows mixer, right click the speaker icon in your system tray and open the volume controls. Select Properties and click in the box marked Recording, click on OK and ensure that your line in (assuming by now you have the capture card audio in line in) is selected.

On most soundcards you can playback audio from multiple ports simultaneously but you can only record from one. This is why you can hear the audio while capturing but not record it.
