  1. I recently tried to burn my first VCD from Premiere 6.5 with Nero ver 6.0. After several trial end errors I eventually got to a point that I thought I had it. Nero began what I thought was the burning process and so I went to make dinner. About 20 minutes later I return to see:

"Sorry, your compilation could not be written on this kind of disc. Please
insert a disc of the correct type, or modify the settings of your compilation
to make it compatible with the current disc "

So then I try it again and it seemed to be going ok except the next time the response was "Drive in use by another application." This was not the case at all?
    Disc required: CD-R/RW

The disc I had was DVD-R/RW

I have Western Digital DVD R/W +- Burner. Why wouldn't this work?

You are trying to burn a VCD onto a DVD-R? I do know you can make DVD-VCDs, but you are trying to make a pure VCD. So you need a CD-R(W) to make a VCD.
    Hello.

  3. I also had a problem with my DVD Writer being recognised,I bought a Pioneer DVR-106D OEM Writer & an External USB-2 Case and every program i tried wouldn't recognise my DVD Writer only my CD-RW,So i downloaded the latest firmware & installed it,Now they recognise my writer but now when i insert (only happens with DVD-R'S)It comes up 0 for size & 0 for space, but when i insert any other type of dvd media it recognises it fine,Strange but even though it doesn't recognise the DVD-R'S it still burns them fine.

Have you also updated your drivers. And if you have, have you also let your system re-recognize your new drive?
    Hello.
