I have lots of avi/divx movies and want to transfer them to vcds or maybe dvds in the future.
Ive looked at some guides and previous questions but seems confusing
how can i convert my avi files into mpg files that i can use to make my vcds. Is there an easy way and a easy program to do it?
Whats the best programs
Ive looked at tmpgen and movie factory but it looks like they take hours to convert. surely theres a quicker way to convert them

I use Tmpgenc to do my encoding to VCD standard and it'll convert in realtime i.e. 1hr of video footage will take 1 hr to record. I use batch mode to do the encoding whilst I'm in work

Sorry, no quick fixes. I don't know your setup but a faster computer might help.

I feel your pain! It takes way too long to convert a DIVX or XVID into a usable format like VCD, SVCD, or DVD. It really sucks and success is hit and miss it would seem.
I'll personally pay $5000.00 to the 1st person that can deliver me a all in one app that can convert DIVX and XVID into mpeg1 or mpeg2 that can be used in VCD or DVD. Of course the app would need to be able to convert PAL DIVX to NTSC, and visa-versa, as well. Of course you will need to sign the software rights over to me, but that's a minor detail. :P -
You could try "Zealot AVI to VCD SVCD DVD Converter" from www.zealotsoft.net - sounds like it is what you want.
Is my money in the post? -

@holistic
- Good point, but I'm sure I'd make more than $5000.00 if I was selling software that could deliver those results, which was my point. The R&D to make this software would almost certainly be worth more than $5000.00, just in time alone. Ya know what they say...............Yeah, Yeah; Time is money. -

No one is going to write an app like that and give you the rights to it for a mear $5000. no way! LOL I write apps far less complex for a whole lot more $$$ than that
