  2. I don't get it. I have a Toshiba SD-6200 player and it won't play DVD-R or DVD+RW but it DOES play DVD+R, and quite easily. Does it have ANYTHING to do with the software that burned the discs or is the just the format? That's one thing I'm completely unsure of...

  3. Uh, oh, malicedoom - you're going to get yelled at for not reading through the rest of the posts. Seems to me that the bottom line is it could be any one (or more) of about a dozen things.

I think the advice you're going to get is be happy you've got a routine that plays consistently and stick with it. Speaking of which, if you read my earlier posts you'll know I have a stack of 48 DVD+Rs that I'll sell you real cheap - LMAO .

Xtasy2002, I'll post when I know what's good for me. It's the least I can do for all the time that was spent trying to help me (mostly Tompika).

  4. Thanks. Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. I found a Fuji 4+1 (4 DVD+R and 1 DVD+RW) at Best Buy for under $20, so I figured that was the safest option. The messed up thing (one of many in this screwy world of DVD burning) is that I KNOW that Memorex DVD+R play great in my player (although if it depends on which program does the burning, then...) BUT my Sony DVD player is supposedly LOUSY at recognizing those Memorex blank DVDs!!! (the ones I DO have were made by a friend using an HP brand drive). Oh, the humanity...

    This made me laugh. :P

I have friends that work tech support, or at least did at one point in time. And the thing they always told me, depending on the monitoring by management, would be when you don't know the answer, just make something up to get the customer off your back.

This sounds like something they'd do.

Seriously, the 1.0 could be ISO Mode 1 ? Or UDF 1.0x ?
But the B? Hehehe, that's good.

Threads like this make me thankful my stuff worked right out of the box.

  6. Speaking of Vance, where is he? I sure do miss those empty threats and his massive amount of knowledge about everything that exists
I think he got the boot after that whole "Marked errors" thing..... Just a guess, but haven't seen anything from him since then.

  7. Someone posted that changing the DVD burning drive to burn as DVD-ROM created less problems with playing on standalones. Has anyone else tried that and did it work?

You should read the whole thread (it's yours anyway)

Bitsetting is supported by Ricoh type burners (with 1.38FW and up) so far.

I look forward to the new 8xPlextor though. (if its set to ROM booktype)

Poppa Meth reported that his NEC ND1100A is set to write ROM booktype to DVD+R discs by default.

"created less problem with playing on stanalones"
I would say it creates no problem at all"
I have information about a Toshiba that will not play rewritable as anything except a -R.(minus R booktype).

  9. Hi all.

Please don't shoot me if you consider this useless, but I'm trying to make a "burning softwares / dvd players" compatibility list:

    http://www.dvdshrink.info/burning-compatibilities.php

If you think it is actually a good idea, please submit your positive experience.

  10. Good idea

Would you include the booktype too?

  11. Glad you like the idea, tompika.

"Would you include the booktype too?"

Well, let me try and find out what the "booktype" is first.

    That's not one of them.

However the NEC1100A writes ROM booktype by default (reported by Poppa_Meth) on DVD+R media

And as far as I know the TDK420 is an OEM NEC110A...

Why dont you just get the media info with DVDInfo Pro and check your DVDR movies

  14. While I'm waiting for my DVD media sample pack to arrive from Meritline.com, I was thinking of using some of my spare time to get back in touch with Memorex tech support just for fun and ask them what the hell they were talking about. I thought you guys might be interested to see if anyone else there could explain that response.

Would anyone object to me including the reactions to their answer in my correspondence? No names, of course, and assuming I can fit it in the itsy-bitsy window they give to ask your question.

  15. Hey, not sure this belongs in this thread (and apologies if it doesn't), but I have 2 DVD+Rs here that were burned with TV shows on them and the same menu format - both play in my main DVD player, but one keeps going back to the menu each time an episode ends, whereas the other DVD keeps playing each episode back-to-back in the order they appear on the menu (like a PLAY ALL option, I suppose).

Is this because of something encoded differently in one of the IFO files or was a mistake made in one of the burns?

  16. That sounds like they were authored differently. In the authoring app you can select what should happen when an episode ends. Which app are you using?
