We obviously need 100% DVD compliant properly authored discs
But we go further to discuss hardwer and media differencesYou stop me again whilst I'm walking and I'll cut your fv<king Jacob's off. -

And I'm not saying you can make a disk that will play on absolutely any machine, but that I've made them that play on any machine I've tried. I haven't tried every single DVD player in the world but I have tried a good range of them. -
Welcome to the club Poppa_Meth!
Thanks for the info.

Should have mentioned, I'm using Nero v6.0.0.11 to do my burns in DVD-Video setting. I had a (documented) problem with an older verion where DVD-Video didn't not play correctly on all players and tried to work around on the forums (with no success), but since upgrading to the current version DVD-Video works fine. So I usually don't use anything else to burn since I know for absolute certain this method is working perfectly for me.

Here we go again that same old argument, you all need to read a little about DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW and how they work technically.
There is one thing right in this thread that it depends on many things, the main being the way that +/- deal with "Disc Wobble" and the machines that you play them on. If you deal with a lot of the new DVD Roms like I do you'll notice that +R is not supported but +RW is this is a fairly good indication that there are issues with this format but thats not to say that they wont work I've tried a few of these drives, for instance an "LG" it played the +R disc but after a while started to break down the Bit stream causing Pixels and picture freezing on three different players. From and engineers technical view what happens here is that the laser as it is used heats up and finds the work involved in the Wobble too much.
I had a + writer and i went through quite a few discs and players, conclusion I dont have many reliable discs that will play and whats important "Discs that play".
I just bought a +/- writer and all the -R discs work flawlessly thats not to say that other people dont have problems, im sure that many + discs work fine and have issues with the - format on their machines.
Yes blame the player but whether its the players fault is another question. A lot of these players every generation will have had something amended like the Rom version (Quite important) cause quite simply you should'nt be copying DVDs in many manufacturers eyes and interests.
The Xbox is a perfect example its had three different drives and over 6 versions so far so if you buy a V1.1 you've got a Thompson drive great at CD-R/RW useless at DVD +/- V1.2 Phillps Drive pretty much no CD-R/RW compatibility but DVD+/- pays great even the worst media V1.2 and V1.3 you've got a Samsung Drive, plays all except DVD+R plays +RW sometimes though you might have to burn the same RW twice. I guess some will start blaming Nero next carry on it wont help solve the issue.
Theres no kind way to put it but thats the long and short of it. -
Nobody was arguing here, we were discussing some things
May I ask what brand of DVD+R/W burner you had (firmware), what media you used(code), what software(settings),players...you know all these details I listed above.

xactly as above, as well as many other things electronic and human failings, its the nature of the beast I guess. Im not accusing anyone of arguing but some of you are being a little aggresive in making your point and it appears some cant be told DVDInfo isnt gonna give you batch info regardless of Media Info as good and handy as it is it isnt really 100% in the human error department.
I work for a leading manufacturer and I can firmly say many manufacturers have upto a 65% return on productions its a question of profit and loss.
As i made clear my comments were not generalistic and may not apply to you, "your very lucky", more an observation of current Media versus Technology both dont always walk hand in hand.
There have been a few sugestions here to test that bad media WHY? so you can argue the results so one batch is Cr@p and another isnt. And fairly if your gonna have a disscussion on this subject surely this is as valid as other comments.
Tompika could you tell me what unit you have its Rom Version ncluding firmware and what the Pot measurement on the laser is set to in "ohms", this is actually the component that makes the difference between playing and not playing, if you dont have a good knowledge of electronics dont touch this even slight adjustment can burn the laser out and cause the drive to become noisy or unstable, measuring is ok adjusting this might cause inconsistencys in the media you use or destroy the drive if this i set right life will become perfect!!!
I would also like to make clear that when a manufacturer states not compatible it means that no guarantee has been given as unit has not been fully tested or that it did not perform well, cause naturally we aint gonna stick these results on the box for all to see including our competitors.
"Faith has no place in knowng and knowing is not being" -
With all due respect to you and your knowledge...
The only thing that counts here is when I put that disc in the player
would it play or not? Will it play after a year?
I'd rather believe my and my mates' firsthand experiences than
somebody that tells me DVD-R's wobbles are much better and
still wouldn't tell us more details about your bad experience with
your DVD+R/W drive. Lay your cards.
You can say I'm just being lucky but when almost all the guys that I know, that has the same drive use the same settings and media - experience that --- It just doesn't really seem LUCK to me.
There are countless posts where manufacturers claim that something was supported and it just wouldn't do and vice versa.
And let me say nobody was making plus-minus war.
You just started.

Don't buy all these bullshit CaptainC tries to feed you.
This guy thinks DVD+R was developed from DVD-R
and he is having difficulties with shrinking DVDs
I just read some of his previous posts.

No what im having a problem with is piecing back together a DVD that has been cut in two. Does moderated under your name mean that some is moderating you or your a moderator cause if you are a moderator stop being so offensive you dont read or listen to anything anyone says you dont like opinions that are not yours. I've read many of your posts and it seems we have a 12 year old as a member because you make a habit of arguing and trying to belittle people on this site.
And im not the first one that you've tried to do this two. What do you know about the development of laser technology? Obviously nothing
You dont listen you dont have any answers so qualify yourself then. I have never stated that DVD+R was developed directly from DVD- but since they serve the same purpose what are you saying. Do you actually know how any of this stuff works.
I think im quite justified to report your post and others you have posted in which you serve only to lower to the lowest any member that posts anything other than your definative answers. You and your so called mates can be found patting each other on the back in other forums but searching i haven't found one post that validates that you have anything to offer than offence.
You simply didnt like the fact that i posted an explanation that didnt agree with you and that you could'nt argue with technically.
Oh yeah what is "That Wobble thing".
With regard to your childish search for some imperfection as a human being, this is what you were talkng about right....
The reality is that DVD+R was developed from DVD-R and that is evolution
there is a word missing when i typed, sorry for my hurry but i have a job,
well being a grown up and all that... The word was....... ON meaning that recordable DVD's were always going to develope ON from the original blue print into another i.e DVD+R its a very technical subject that may be hard for you to grasp! and no I dont think that anyone thought that that development would have such an impact.
So judging from your mocking you know how to piece together VOBs that have been cut using VOBedit repairing the IFO file and restoring the original files to one 8 gig file now remember i still have the chapter information. You see i work with mathmatical schematic diagrams all day and i dont really get the time to nerd out on software but i like to keep un-ignorant about the usage of the things i help build and develope.
Yes that is another failing on my part and others like me that we develope stuff that we dont really know how its used but my MD's are like some of the members on here, "they have a hidden agenda".
So i dont know how to fix some VOBs that have been cut up without loosing the menus, I didnt claim to be a producer i an electronic engineer that simple. The terms also of the forum clearly explain that introducing new topics is not allowed which you have attempted to do and I sugest you put your answer to my VOB question in the appropriate forum. -
Sorry once again to offend tompika by not closing my quote well im only human unlike "Saint tompika" id better check for spelling mistakes as well

If you worked for a leading manufacturer, using a basic DVD Authoring
tool woudn't give you hard time.
That shows exactly that the best job you could get at a leading manufacturer would be a bathroom attendants.
Yes you clearly stated that DVD+R was developed from DVD-R and you called it evolution. Want a screenshot?
DVD+R/W was developed from CD-R/W.
You are a joke CaptainC, you want people to respect you but you've been busted.
Just tell me exactly why the slow wobbles are better than the fast ones???You stop me again whilst I'm walking and I'll cut your fv<king Jacob's off. -

starnge everyone of those players in his list I have tried with my DVD+R's from an HP 200I and they all play perfect as of matter of fact as I have stated before and can't find a DVD player yet that won'y play my +R's, but I made sure my Burner was setup 1st using the bitsetter so it burns them all as DVD-Rom. I have tried players that state "will not play +R\+RW format, it plays any of mine no problem and any I have mailed and given to friends and relatives.

Gentlemen: I know squat about this stuff, so any help is appreciated. I have a Sony DRU-510A. I burned a movie with X-Copy Express on Imation DVD+R media (RICOHJPN-R00-01). The recorded movie plays back fine in the DRU-510A, but does not play in my Memorex MVD2027, which is listed in all the DVD+R compatibility lists I have seen (when inserted, the display just says "no disc"). So, I've been looking for answers. I see here references to Book Type, and I don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. Can someone explain for me what it is, what it does, and what happens if I change it? When I run DVDInfo and look at the Book Type, it is currently set to DVD+RW. I could use some guidance, and would be forever grateful for some help.
Thanks - Dave -
Compatibility bitsetting won't work on your Sony dual drive.
You stop me again whilst I'm walking and I'll cut your fv<king Jacob's off. -
So I'm out of luck, Tompika? Any suggestions on what I can/should do? If recording with DVD-R is the only answer, that's OK, but I'd hate to think I just threw away $70 on the blank discs (but if that's the answer, then so be it). Thanks for the answers.
Dave -
If I had a dual drive I would use DVD-R for movies and DVD+RW (for temporary datas).
DVD-R has great standalone compatibility, anywayYou stop me again whilst I'm walking and I'll cut your fv<king Jacob's off. -
I still have my old Apex 600A, and it plays DVD+R's burned with my Sony DRU500A just fine.
-
tompika, if I can bother you one more time on the subject:
I wrote an e-mail to Memorex tech support asking them if they had any ideas why the DVD+R would not play in the MVD-2027. (Just can't bear to toss that $70 yet).
Their answer: "Thank you for your purchase of a Memorex product. When burning a dvd movie, you must make certain that it is burned as 1.0 and finalized as B."
What the hell are they talking about? I've used DVD X Copy Express and Pinnacle Studio 8 to burn the DVDs, and neither had any options for burning or finalizing. I'm guessing they mean burn at 1X, but have no idea what "finalized as B" means, and I thought DVD+R wasn't finalized at all.
Can you enlighten me, please? Thanks for your patience with an ignorant newbie.
Dave -
Fv<k me! Same old Memorex support service. Good for nothing.
1.0b
Honestly, I do not have a clue!
1. It doesn't make any sense but your drive (Sony510) has a firmware version 1.0b
You can PM "defense", he has the same drive....
2. Could be UDF format 1.02
3. Could be ISO level 1
4. Mode1 is a CD recording type
5 . Finalized as B??? DVD-Video requires finalizing.
Maybe they meant A- multisession, B-finalized???
That email is not clear, you probably need a "well paid engineer (who knows about laser technology)" to break this code. You stop me again whilst I'm walking and I'll cut your fv<king Jacob's off. -
memorex doesn't know what they're talking about..that's no surprise.
Tompika is right..it must be UDF they are referring to and they can't even get that right. -
LOL - guys, I'm getting in so far over my head it's not even cute anymore.
OK, I had no clue what UDF was, but after hunting around quick I see it's a file system. The programs I have been using to burn don't give me an option. I see that Nero does.
Know what? I've decided to cop out, throw in the towel, bite the weiner. I'll go to DVD-R, then if I still have problems I'll jump back into the soup.
Thanks again for the help. Hey, you tried. tompika, like you once said, all you can do is open the door.
