Try this
I finally found the best possible way to make a NTSC VCD from DVD.
After 6 Months of making them I discovered that a combination of the right settings using DVD2AVI and TMPEGenc.
Use the following.
I use cladDVD 2.0 to rip...(No brainer)
Then I open DVD2AVI and use the following settings
Video: iDCT Algorithm - 64 BIT Floating Point
Field Operation - Forced Film
Color Space - YUV
YUV > RGB - TV Scale
Audio: Track Number - 1
Channel Format - Dolby Digital
Dolby Digital - Decode
Then save project.
Load the correct NTSC Format...Usually Different formats are for different sizes onscreen...View your original DVD to figure this out...that is the best way...experiment....
ADVANCED tab
Video Source Type - Non-Interlace
Field order - Top field first
Source Aspect Ratio - Either 1:1 or 2.11:1
Video Arrange method - Full Screen (Keep Aspect)
QUARTIERIZE MATRIX tab
Put checks in the
Output YUV data
Use floating point DCT
Now hit the ENCODE Button
IF the original looks real small horizontally its probably the 2.11:1 ratio youll need to setup along with the NTSCfilm Template...if it looks almost like fullscreen but not quite its 1:1...just press F5 before you use DVD2AVI to figure out the Template ie.,NTSCfilm = 23.97fps NTSC = 29fps
Pal = 25fps

I just want to put a footnote on this before this gets way out of hand like some posts do...the term BEST, is very much like beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder...what may work for one doesnt always trasnlate into BEST for someone else....you will get some whom will argue for days about some of the above mentioned settings.

Your right...dont listen to me...I am having serious loveing problems...please someone tell me how to keep my APEX 500w from going out of sync in the movie MATRIX when I FF or RW or PAUSE...I use DVD2AVI to get the m2v and wav file then I load the correct template for 29fps (NTSC) and encode..then it never works...it will be fine if i dont RW or FF but then again after awile it will unsync itself...cooledit is only for if your wav is shorter than your movie...so please dont tell me to use that...if anyone knows the answer to my questions please POST!!! thanks
