  1. I just got an OEM 106 and installed it in XP Pro. I installed NERO (latest version - 6) along with a slew of other writing software and none of it works (admittedly most dont recognise the drive). NERO tells me, once I hit "burn" that the "device is in use by another application" and the burn aborts before getting started. As far as I know, nothing else is using the drive. It seems fine in XP - I can read CDs and DVDs on it with no problem but I can't burn a DVD (-R) or even a regular 700Meg CD (same error).

Has anyone else encountered this problem or have a solution? Or is the drive just dead?

I have checked firmware, which is the latest version, region settings (2), DMA is on etc etc... all the usual stuff.

    Thanks!

    A slew you say.

If you had a CD burner previously installed with nero's INCD then it may be "locking" you drive.

Check your task manager to see if one of the slew of programs is loading on boot up and trying to control you drive.

  3. I like Slew, ya'll don't go picking on him/her. Ya hear.

If you don't find any program using/locking your drive un-install the Slew and just install a sloth, err one, and see if it works then.

I have heard some programs will conflict with each other and cause problems with burners. Also if you are using the newest Nero, I heard it was pretty buggy, might be fixed by now though. But you might either want to check for updates patches to Nero or use an older version like 5.10 or something.

If you have another system handy you could try the drive in, that would be good if it still isn't working after the above.

    I haven't had that problem myself and I run W2K pro, but that's what I would try.[/b]

  4. Actually I tried software then removed it - one at a time. Thats the confusing part. All thats left now is Nero 6 and Win DVD (old ish version that I used to play discs in my DVD Rom). Will it matter that the ROM drive is chained onto the writer as a slave?

Any idea where I can get an older NERO version to try out?

  5. Hey,

I had the same problem. I downloaded DVD Decryptor and it told me that I could not use the DVR-106 without first setting the region. DVD Decryptor then prompted me to do it and right away it worked in Nero

Good Luck... I'm having other problems with that drive now :S

  6. *** PROBLEM SOLVED!! ***

Help from a newsgroup, in the form of:

    1. Goto Start/run and type msconfig
    2. Go to services
    3. Remove checkmark from "Imapi CD Burning Rom Service"

Voila... burner functions perfectly! Thanks for your help guys.
