First question.
I am looking for a Video Capture card to record music videos onto my PC. (then to VCD or DVD from there) I dont want to spen a lot of money for this card as I dont want to give up my current video card. (G4 4800) I bought a ATI AIW7500 but this infact replaCES MY CURRENT VIDEO CARD and thats NOT a smart move. (Not with the 7500 atleat) As these video are to be playing in my car, (look at www.users.qwest.net/~solocon for more info) I would like VERY good sound and pic. Whats the best card to fit my needs? Remember, I wish not to give up my current video card if I dont need to.
Also, while I am thinking about it, Could I give a link to www.vcdhelp.com from my web site to give this place credit for all the help/info I used?
Second Question......
I play a lot of games ans want to record my onscreen game play onto my PC. What is the best way to do this? I have tried camtasiacnet pro but it only gets about 5-7 FPS. This is NOT good. I need about 30. (Yes I did set it up to 30 fps but still drops way too many)
If needed, here is my computer specs...
1400ghz AMD
512 DDR
2 hard drives (one 80 gig, the second is a 120 gig)
If anyone has info on any of this, it would help a lot. I also want to say thanks.

As far as the siter about the CARPUTER... its been done (by me) and has been working fine for about a year and a half. No problems.
Rarely do capture card record video at that low of a FPS. Check out this link as to why you might be losing frames:

about the other issue, the software I am using (on the same system I am playing the game on) onlyt gets about 5-7 FPS. Again, this SOFTWARE records everything on your computer screen but does NOT do well while playing Video Games. Is there away around this? Is it hardware or Software?
Thanks again. -
For your first question you may want to look on the left panel on the front page of this site. There is a section devoted to capture cards with some comments by users. There are many PCI cards that should fit your need to do video capture to any format you like (avi, mpeg1,mpeg2) without the need to change your video card.
Your second question has been a problem for many gamers who want to capture their game action. Most try screen capture utilities but because the game uses a lot of resources it takes a powerful cpu to both process the game action and still keep up screen caps at the same time. There are also sometimes issues with capping overlay mode. (You get a blank screen).
I haven't used those for a while but I remember getting at least 15 fps plus audio with a P4 1,6. I tried the same with streaming video and got about the same rate. As I recall I used Hypercam for that but there are other similar tools available. You would have to do a search on screen capture apps. Some (like Hypercam) allow you to cap the audio at the same time. Maybe without the audio you could cap a higher rate. Some I recall "any capture screen, camtasia, capture eye, snagit." Although some of these may only do single frames but hypercam does avi.
I'm sure this has come up frequently on gaming sites.
I have previously suggested an alternative to someone else:
1) start your tv tuner capture app (use svideo or composite video input as source).
2)plug the TV-out signal from your video card to the input on your TV-capture card and start your game.
3) capture away until your done.
4) stop all apps
5) edit the captured video to remove the overcap.
If you have a good tv-out this should work quite well with a little tweaking.
I'm sure you can figure out the audio. hint (speaker out to tv-capture card in to sound card line-in)
Obviously you'll need your capture card to test thisThere's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway. -

TY for this info. I will try the video in/video out you talked about. I am not much worried about sound as far as the games go.
I will over look the link as well.
To anyone who might have more info on any of this, please post it. Thank again to all. -
Good capture devices are the Canopus ADVC-100 or Datavideo DAC-100. Both are external devices that capture analog video to DV format and transfer it via firewire to your pc. Look them up in the capture card section.
