  1. ive downloaded a few DVD rips . ive VCD'd em to just normal VCD, (352x240) but since the res. is too small, the quality stinks!. so i used SVCD (480x480), the still picture quality is very good and sharp but moving picture is horribly pixelated. there is so much block noise. its terrible. makes it really bad to watch. DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO ELIMINATE BLOCK NOISE FROM SVCDS?? ive been searching for the answer to this for AGES. The source AVI file was not like this. When it is encoded it goes really bad. can someone PLEASE HELP ME HERE??!?!?!!!! i really would appreciate the help here. Im using 2200 bitrate. Is there any other setting that can help to reduce block noise that is independant of bitrate?

First, burn a CDRW with a bunch of test clips just to find out what is the maximum bitrate YOUR dvd player will take. Mine plays SVCDs very well up to 2800 (almost).

Then encode your video using CCE SP (CinemaCraft Encoder) version 2.5 or 2.62, using 3 pass variable bitrate and setting the maximum to your max. Make sure to check or un-check the "upper field first" checkbox depending on whether or not you get slight jitters during playback.

If you´re using W2K it may be a bit tricky to get CCE working properly, but it can be done (I do it). The way to do it is in some of the forum discussions.

I get SVCDs that actually look better than the original VHS tapes. The key words are "look", cause I know they cannot *be* better, and "better" cause its a very subjective term... But I am very demanding in terms of quality and I´m satisfied...

    good luck.
