Hi Everyone
I've ripped a dvd to hard disk and can happing see all te VOB files. I'm now using an application called MPEG2CUT to create a mpeg file which I hope to pick up in Pinnacle Studio to add transitions and effects.
However, when I save the file in MPEG2CUT, I can see it in windows explorer as type 'movie file (MPEG) nad its's associated with windows media player but Pinnacle Studio cannot see the file.
Can someone help me please? Many thanks.

The extension on the file is somthing that Pinnacle doesn't recognize, or you'll have to demux the file into it's elementary streams and use it from there. I'm not 100% sure on this because I'm not familiar with the Pinnacle apps.

I saved the file within quotes, eg "moviepart.mpg" and I could pick it up in Pinnacle Studio. By the way saving it as "moviepart, mpeg" didn't work
Thanks to all who replied.
Onto the next part. Basically, I'm going to end up with several mpeg files. They'll be musical clips, eg suppose I was compiling an Elvis Presley greatest hits DVD. I will end up with several mpeg files, each representing a song. Ideally I would like to join them up with a transition between each song and copy to DVD.
Can anyone suggest what software and methods I can use?
Many thanks! -
I have had good luck with tmpegnc plus to add, cut, piece my mpegs together.
I have been trying to locate a program to go from vob to mpeg.. but I cant seem to find anything that will work. I have split the vob into the 2 elementary streams, but ulead mf2 wont read the ac3 (the sound portion).
if you have ideas.. -
The old version 1.x of Mpeg2Cut has a lot of compatibility problems.
Try version 2 - Mpg2Cut2 - which resolves a number of issues from Version 1, and adds a number of new features.
Download the latest version of Mpg2Cut2 at

If you are having problems with Version 1,
then give Version 2 a try.
For cutting VOBs, I recommend the following::
- "menu - Output - Preamble - MAXIMUM"
- Also use "PVAStrumento" from Offerynto fix timecodes..
