  3. Sorry it took so long to reply, i was out of town. So i just tried with a different file. I will give an example of TMPENC. When I try to convert a file with these parameters - 5.38 mb, DivX 5.0 enc, 654 kb/s bitrate, 29.970 fps, MPeg 1 Layer 3 audio enc with 128 kb/s (64/ch, stereo) CBR ; It starts the conversion and freezes abot 30 seconds into the video. It continues to convert the audion but video stays on the last frame where it froze. This has happened to three different DivX files. I am not really sure what to do. VD does the same thing in the same spot. My goal is to convert a DivX file to an SVcd format, break it so that it fits on two cds and burn. I hope that was enough info.

  4. Are you sure your file's codec is Divx 5.0 and you have installed this or later codec ?
Does this file (divx) play normally and not freeze in media player ?
The freezing with Divx encoding usually comes if you try to convert divx with the version higher then you have installed in your system. I once had such problem when I tried to convert Divx 5.0.5 file and had Divx 5.0.2 codec installed. Make sure you have the latest Divx codec in your system.

  5. I actually have the latest DivX codec. These files will not play in media player though. I have to play them with the divx player.

  6. Have you opened this with G-Spot ? It may track this problem down to your installed codecs (which might tell you why it wont play in Media Player).

  8. What did you try in VirtualDub ? Did you try to frameserve or decode your avi ?
(I am sorry I did not notice you already tried TMPGEnc)

Try running the file through DivFix, this may work. Or Uninstall alll your codecs and reinstalling. I had this same problem when i used nemo , so i ditched nemo and just installed the codecs singularly and it fixed it.

  10. download dvd2svcd. use the avi template.

on why you may not be able to play the video, upgrade to at least 8 media player (trust me), install lastest divx pack, and install xvid codec. Doing those things should get you what you need.

  11. macleod, what does XVID have to do with Divx codec ? The only common thing in these two codecs is the file extension.

This very much sounds like a bad AVI, if both VDub and TMPGEnc freezes at the same spot in the file.
And antonv - DivX and XviD are pretty similar - both MPEG4. So similar, that you just by changing "XVID" to "DIVX" can fool your system into using the DivX codec to decode the XVID, often with better results than some of the native XviD codecs produce...
