  1. Hey there.... I want to know the best seeting to reduce the file size of captured videos in this ways...

I want to backup some Analogue videos since VHS to 3/4 camera formats in the minimal size but in fair quality as posible; also i want to edit these backups for VCD, SVCD and DVD outputs. In some post over there i read about the 352x480 MPEG2 setting in 6000kbps its a good quality(dunno about the resultant file size), then, compared with 720x480 in 3000kbps what can be the quality/file size ratio between these two settings??

    Thx in advance...

  2. The file sizes will be the same regardless of whether you use 720x480 or 352x480 if you use the same bitrate on each. File size is a component of bitrate and time with MPEG2. What using the lower resolution buys you is when you are using lower bitrates. The compression and artifacts do not seem as bad as they do at full D1.

So if you want to put over 3 hours of content on a DVDR, then the 352x480 might be something to look into. Well, since your doing VHS captures, 352x480 might be the best overall option, unless your source is phenominally good. Just do some test and see what you think.
