I have been using ZoomPlayer lately, I like some of the features it offers, but I am having trouble playing AVI files encoded with XVID codec. When playing, as in my other players, I get color blurs all through the video as the ZoomPlayer is not using XVID as the "default" codec. I know (I believe) you can setup ZoomPlayer to use different filters, as different videos may play better with and even require different codecs. How can I setup a "filter" to be used for playing by ZoomPlayer, and how can I then select the appropriate filter to be used for various videos? For instance, some AVI's may require "mpeg-4 fast motion" and some may require "xvid".

  2. Well, you could mess with the manual filter settings in the Zoom Player configuration, but I don't know how much this will help you.

I would suggest that you download and install ffdshow instead. This will allow you to specify what decoder DirecShow will use to decode specific media. It also includes its own decoder that I and others have found to be very reliable. After installing it, just open its configuration menu throught the Windows Start Menu and click on "codecs" here you can choose which decoder will be used to decode which codec. "libavcodec" is the ffdshow decoder.

This way, your decoder choices aren't limited to Zoom Player, but will work with nearly every player out there, including WMP.

Let me know if this doesn't help, and we'll see about coming up with something else.

P.S. MPEG-4 fast motion is an encoding option, the decoder used doesn't have to be a fast-motion decoder, but handles it automatically.
