  1. Was reading one of the posts below, and came across a line I've seen quite a few times

"FCP can not edit or do anything with MPEG video"

Not trying to be clever, but I've been doing exactly that all day today, and have been able to since OS9.2.2....

I can rip a chapter from a DVD, import it STRAIGHT into FCP and cut, add fades etc (that's all I've ever done with them, so don't know if everything works).

You then have to render, which takes about 6 x realtime (I use the highest MJPEG settings not to loose quality), then I export back to MPEG2....

    Am I not understanding ppl?

Yupz, that's true. I was able to import and edit vobs and mpegs.
Maybe something is depending on something just why I could import and edit.

that is not TRUE mpeg editing, if you have to render to another format and THEN export to mpeg-2... that isnt real mpeg-1 or 2 editing even in the slightest, REAL editing is realtime, you edit, you export STRAIGHT to mpeg-1 or 2
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.

  4. Fair enough Bile,

but most of the posts I've read state you HAVE to convert MPEG into something QT compliant BEFORE importing into FCP - I was just pointing out that 'aint necessarily so.........

Also, isn't native MPEG editing not frame accurate? I am not entirely sure, but I heard that if the MPEG isn't rendered into something else after changes, it can only cut to I frames......leaving a whole GOP at beginning or end.

    Yes / no ??
