Nice Case... but what's the upper device in the front part of your case... do you have a car stereo inserted there???

Is it me or do most peoples computer work spaces seem a bit messy? :P
-
I thought it was just my space that was messed up, but it's a common problem... i just cant't keep it neat for too long!!!...
It's like the things around my desk have a mind of their own, and pick their own places... uhm... the next one decaf for me please! -

I still own this in its original box and it works perfectly:
Sinclair ZX81 circa 1982Cole -
for what?

All the PC stuff had to start somewhere...Cole -
i know what it is -- i thought you meant you were still using it .
people still do use tandy 80's though .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Nah, I just meant that it is still in good working order.
The only practical use it has now is as a calculator (but with bad buttons) or a door stopCole -
zx81s are cool........ get that baby hooked up with a 16k ram pack (and a lot of very strong duct tape) and some very clever assembly programming and you can have high rez games with colour and sound - out of a supposedly 32x24, mono, silent machine. now that's skill, in my book, skills that i think we've probably lost
mind you because of my age i was always a spectrum / 8mhz-16bit 68000-based computer lad. the same spirit lived on into them. the things those guys could do with 0.25mips, a graphics chip supposedly only good for 16 colours at 320x200 and a sound chip capable of 3+1 square wave/noise output beggared belief. 512 colour 3D environments at 640x256 with 8 bit sample soundtracker music and FX? nice
eh um so i digress.............. where's that zip drive again? .... oh, i see.. very well hidden that
my first PC booted right from a floppy and loaded win3.1 from an internal ATAPI zip disc - no hard drive... real junkyard job (i think it had about 3.5mb of RAM, too)unfortunately my last working zip100 bit the dust ages ago, succumbed to the demons of click. My dad had all my discs and one of his two drives still works - i'm trying to wean him on to CDRW and thumbdrives ---- so i can rob the parallel-driven Zip back to use as a data transfer mule for my non-USB compatible 1997 sub-notebook laptop
(pain in the ass - it's about three months too old to have either built in USB or the requisite Cardbus slot for a add-in card... just a 16 bit PCMCIA instead ... but still has a parallel port at least)
I'll dig out a piccy of my current PC setup in a minute. I think it looks quite good if you excuse the mess on the desk. The box is kinda nondescript and mostly hidden ... all you can really see is the printer, scanner, keyboard/mouse, the LCD..... and all the system box's wires sprouting out from the right of the monitor-= She sez there's ants in the carpet, dirty little monsters! =-
Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more! -
Wow, here is an old thread.
