    Hi All,

I've been trying to burn an mpg as a VCD with Roxio's Easy CD Creator. I have a HP cd-writer cd12 series.

The VCD will play on my computer no problem, but when I goto play it on my DVD (Pioneer, which by the way does play vcd's because I burned one at work and brought it home and it played fine) it won't play, it registeres the cd as a VCD, but I just get a blue screen with the word "Play" on the top left hand corner of the screen. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

If you look at the disk in your pc I bet anything you will see that the dat file is in the segment dir instead of the mpegav dir, which is incorrect. Ez CD Creator does this when it thinks the mpg is non-compliant, even though in actuality the mpg is probably fine. There should be an option in Ez cd creator which allows you to check its compliance. Yellow things are probably ok, read ones are bad and will always result in a non working vcd if you burn anyway.

The best solution is to get rid of ez cd creator altogether, for vcds it really is a terrible choice of burning software. But if you want to continue using it then get TMPGenc and go to file/mpeg tools/simple demultiplex. Load your video, hit run, and let it do its thing. When its done go to simple multiplex. Load the files you just created and make sure and select MPEG-1 Video-CD on type. Ez cd creator shouldnt have any objections to the mpg now but make sure and check its compliance properties in Ez CD first before burning. The resulting vcd should play in your dvd player now.

    Hey,

Hmm actually no Easy CD puts it in the right directory, and it does say the VCD is compliant. Really weird. What burning software do you recommend for VCD's? Nero?

    Yup Nero.

After the dvd player recognizes the disk as a vcd try turning PBC off and then hitting play. It might work. Other than that sorry I can't think of anything except that maybe something went wrong during the burn process. Maybe just give it another shot.

I prefer Nero for all my VCD/SVCD burning needs. =)
They played fine on my standalone dvd player. =)

Obviously you are using 'Test Write' mode. Un-Check that box. =|

For some reason Nero doesn't recognise my CD writer at all which is a HP CD writer cd12 series. When I select the Choose Recorder option, all it says is "Image Recorder - Virtual Device". Any ideas?

Are you using the lastest version of Nero?
"Image Recorder - Virtual Device" is means you will just write a cd image to your hard disk. =|

  11. Agent X: Welcome to the club, just bought a cd12ri and it is a piece of crap, no second party software will work with it, Nero has seen fit (in their infinite wisdom) to not support ANY of the 12 series burners. I am trying desperately to get it to work, and if I do find a way I will let you know, otherwise, if you have any luck, e-mail me at lordnordeth@yahoo.com and let me know how you fixed it.

    Thanks
