  1. I've been using ritek go4 dvd-r disks and am really happy with them, no problems. I just bought a 100 pack spindle that only burns at 2x (30 minutes). Why is this? Here is the info I got from dvdinfo.

    New disks:
    Media Information
    Media code/Mfr ID RITEKG04
    Book Type DVD-R
    Media type DVD-R V2.2
    Loaded Media Speed 4.0x 5540KBps
    Write Rotation Control CLV
    Linear Density 0.267um/bit
    No of Layers 1

The first batch had a shiny top with purple bottom the new ones have a matte silver top and purple bottom.

I'm using sony dru500a with firmware 2.0f and nero burning rom 5.5.10.35 which says i'm writing at 4x but it takes 30 min.

  2. Sony Drives are very picky about the media it burns. If you want constant 4x, you will have to change your media.

I'm using those same disks with the same burner, same firmware, same version of Nero. I've burned about 40 Ritek's so far at 4x without a single problem. Do you have DMA enabled and all that?

I have burned an entire spindle of 50 G04 dvd-r discs with a sony dru 500a. All have burned at 4x using Nero and RecordNow DX. The most common problem is failure to have DMA enabled for the drive.

  5. i had some 4x verbatim dvd+r datalifeplus discs.. they would not burn at 4x, not even 2.4x.. they burned at an amazing 1x.. the dvd+r spec requires disc to burn at a minimum of 2.4x..

i even updated the firmware for the sony dru500ax & recordnow max.. still the drive would only burn the discs @ 1x.. i had other verbatim 2.4x dvd+r's (and dvd+rw's) and they burned at 2.4x.. its a weird drive sometimes..

  6. Thanks for the replies. How do i enable dma? As for the disks i burned the first spindle of 50 at 4x no problem. Thats why i went out and bought 100. The only difference i can see, ( the info from dvdinfo is the same), is the top of the disk. The first set were silver almost mirror like. The second set has a matte silver top. Tony
