  1. i just called technical support at pioneer and they told me that in the usa pioneer dvd players dont have a pal/ntsc selector or convertor so they could make them cheaper and make more money but the ones over seas do.

is this true because i sure as hell cant play a pal dvd on mine i've tried everything

has anyone gotten a pal dvd to play right on ntsc tv in a pioneer player

by the way i have the dv-250

You've got to be kidding. They left that stuff out because 99.9% of the US doesn't need it. So, we save money on our DVD players.

    The US owns Hollywood!
The US has the best TV shows!
NTSC is the wave of the future, and the US is NTSC country!

So why even bother with "passe" PAL mode?

  3. some europeans(like me ) might disagree.
id more than likely say-NTSC=Never The Same Colour.
i mean, your tv picture really sucks,-big time, poor colour and clarity.
now PAL 60 is the way to go,very clear colour, nice clarity, and !wow!,it can even come in RGB too..know what that is.....probably the best picture quality in the world.(for a TV anyhoo).
beats svhs, ntsc(quality),and component is only second to it.
i get better results on RGB than i do with component,on my tv,but others may differ.

  4. My dv-343 can play pal svcds and vcds, but no high rez xsvcds or dvds though. I believe it has something to do with my tv.

Pal does usually look better. Hopefully in a few years here in the us ntsc will be replaced all together with hdtv, mmmm hdtv.

2007 is the deadline set to end analog cable broadcasts I hear...I just wonder if there will be an extension to this. Market penetration is not too high for HDTV's just yet (though it is climbing rapidly) and not a lot of people will care to get one of these, even when prices do drop...for some people it just isn't a priority. I myself will only pick one up when prices are real low and the deadline is closer and a 100% confirmation that Analog broadcasts will end is given to the general public. At this point its what they plan, but things can change, we'll all know sooner or later though I suppose.

  6. 2007 is doubtful, 2010 sounds more like it though. By then standard analog tube tvs will probably be a thing of the past and almost everyone will own plasma or tft tvs, or very nice tube hdtv sets (by todays standards anyway).

Most USA model PIONEER stand alone DVD players are capable of playing PAL encoded DVD discs but the disc must be region free and although the PIONEER will play it back correctly it will output the PAL DVD as PAL so unless you have a multi-system PAL capable display and/or a stand alone digital converter box ... you are out-of-luck.

If you live in the USA and only have a NTSC TV but need the ability to play back PAL DVD discs as well as being REGION FREE then you should consider getting the Cyberhome CH-DVD 500

You can order it direct from the Cyberhome website for $79.95 USD plus shipping.

For into on how to (easily) make this DVD player region free check out the message forums at the NERD-OUT website where they have a message forum dedicated to the Cyberhome line of DVD players.

    P.S.
The Cyberhome CH-DVD 500 has the best quality PAL to NTSC conversion I've seen in a region free stand alone DVD player.
