  1. I have a 1gigabyte Avi movie with a resolution of 480x216 which is widescrren and is watchable only at this resolution,eg when changed to 4:3 format it looks awful.Problem is when i encode to MPEG-2 with MainConcept at this resolution it comes out fine and plays almost identical to the original file in Windows Media Player & WinDVD.

The problem comes when i try to Author it(Tmpgenc Dvd Author.I get a the video resolution 480x216 cannot be used for standard DVD,For standard DVD you can use the following (352x288,352x576,704x576,720x576 Pal Format).

The video framerate cannot be used with the resolution 480x216 the framerate can only be used with the following resolutions(Same as above all PAL format).

I have tested these resolutions with a small sample i cut from the main movie using virtualdub,They all make the movie unwatchable because it is only watchable in widescreen.Does anybody know how i can get around this,Is it maybe be possible to encode in full screen 704x576 or 720x576 then add the letterbox effect to make it widescrren then allow the authoring progs to accept it or does somebody know another way to convert to widescreen(Using either Tmpgenc Plus or Mainconcept)Then allow it to be authored & play in standard home dvd players in 16:9 format,Thanks..

  2. Several possibilities, all involve letterboxing the image.

    1) Encode to DVD compliant mpeg-2 in TmpGenc, on the settings advanced tab select Video arange method as Full Screen keep aspect ratio.

    2) Frameserve from virtualdub, use the resize filter and add the black borders at that point, the use CCE or MainConcept to encode.
