Is it possible to convert an XSVCD to plain old SVCD? If so, how do I go about doing that? AVICODEC tells me this XSVCD is:

    File : 558 MB (0.0 B), duration 0:00:00, type MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality 88 %
    Video : 0.0 B, 15000 Kbps, 29.970 fps, res. 480*480 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported
    Audio : 0.0 B, 192 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 chan., 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Supported

I have tried de-multiplexing, and then trying to convert the video to 2000 kpbs and then multiplexing... seperating the audio to a .WAV and then reencoding...nothing seems to work or give me something I can burn to a CD to watch on my DVD player. Help!!!

I can't spot anything "X" about that. All withing SVCD specs as far as I can see. If it's multiplexed as SVCD, and you author it properly (=using VCDEasy imho) you should end up with a SVCD well within specs.

I think the Video: 15000 kbps makes it slightly more than is acceptable to my DVD player and also does not fall within the guidelines of SVCD which I believe tops-out at 2500 kbps. Not an expert here so maybe I'm missing something...I tried with VCDeasy AND Nero 6 Ultra to burn the XSVCD without processing and my DVD player will NOT recognize it at all. Mind you, I have a relatively new DVD player that can play not only DVDs but VCDs and SVCDs as well. It WILL NOT play this in the least.

Ah - that's one I didn't see. I read 1500 kbps, not 15000. Most DVD players can't read faster than the max SVCD data rate (if even that) from a CD, so if your player has problems with 15000 kbps, it's not that strange! Let me see, what's the duration then; a 6 minutes clip?

    Mats:

I'm really in over my head here on this one. I browse the newbie forum here frequently because I'm kinda new to this. I have been having very good luck with converting PAL to NTSC and have been successful with AVIs and just about everything thats been thrown at me...however, I have not been able to do anything with this XSVCD. I was hoping there was a program that would cut that 15000 fbps down to a more manageable rate...I guess you don't know of anything like that???

Anyway, I still would like to get this where I can watch it...

    Thanks

  6. Chances are, it's not 15000kb/s. Either you read it wrong, or theres something wrong with the prog. 15,000 is twice that of DVD quality, and doesn't coincide with SVCD, or xSVCD paticulars.

Actually, I have four (4) of these...all classified as X(S)VCD and all have the same Video: 15000 fbps...I did not read it wrong...now possibly AVICODEC is confused...I am just relaying what I'm getting out of that.
Again, as I mentioned earlier, I am a newbie. Assuming that AVICODEC is interpreting it correctly, is there any applications that can cut this figure down to a more managable rate? TMPGenc gets about half way through and "locks up". Don't think TMPGenc can digest this bitrate...any other programs out there that anyone knows of???

One other thing I forgot to mention...and I, again, have no idea what this means nor necessitates...if I try to de-multiplex one of these X(S)VCDs with TMPGenc, the first thing that happens is a new box opens that says "Creating GOP List" which takes about 30 seconds to complete. Not sure what this means nor how I use a "GOP List"...any thoughts on this???
